  1. because there not from wales. come on the irish

  2. Only the welsh will pronounce it properly as the english have no words begining with LL! My wife is from the Philippines and they have no words at all that end in th so in english they drop the h and pronounce the t only. So having a bath becomes having a bat!!!

  3. People ALWAYS pronounce it incorrectly do they? Even the people from Llanelli? Or are you exagerating slightly?

  4. AS mentioned not from Wales.  But why do Llanelli always blame Cardiff for any loss!?

  5. They don't.

I've heard it pronounced several different ways.

One of them has to be the right way.

  6. Lady moon...Ll is NOT a diphthong..the oy in 'boy' is a diphthong.

Ll is one letter in Welsh as is Ch, Dd , Ph,Rh ,Ff and Th.

dd is pronounced like the 'th' in 'then'  ..NOT 'thin'

th is like the 'th' in 'thin'

    rh is an aspirated 'r'

ff  and ph are like the English  'f'

ch is like the scottish 'ch' in 'loch'  not 'lock' as the English pronounce it.

ll is a uniquely welsh sound..hard to describe...like an aspirated 'l'

Put your tongue on the top of your mouth like 'l' and pretend to laugh..

You can't really blame the English..they won't have come across the sound before.

The town near where I live..Pwllheli has had many versions given by visitors..

Pyth-welly,   Poo-elly. You get used to it..so I'm sure will Llanelli.

  7. Because languages are living and develop with people's speech so that if all now pronounce Llanelli in the same way, however different that is with past pronunciations,  then that will be the new accepted way and taken as correct whilst the old way will have gone

  8. because it's not a place used commonly in england so no one ever says it and has to change the lls to ths.

Am a saints fan and drew Llanelli in the cup last year and was yelled at by an angry welsh guy for getting it wrong, been "thlanethli" to me ever since!

  9. Is that wales near rotherham, coz i don't understand people from rotherham neither and for all you people who haven't heard of rotherham its a little village near mexborough.  Can you pronounce mexborough?

  10. They do not know the welsh alphabet, therefore cannot pronounce some letters!

  11. 'll' is a separate letter in itself in the Welsh language, and people can't pronounce it in England! I was teaching a couple of my friends how to say it last night. I found that one Nigerian girl got it straight away! Weird.

The same thing goes for 'ch', and 'r's.

  12. Because they are not Welsh and don't know how to pronounce the dipthong "Ll"  - it doesn't exist in English.  Basically.

  13. cos they're too ruddy lazy to pronounce it properly, even when told how to spell it.

I used to live in Llangollen and Bethesda, and a certain friend used to called, and still does call it, Glangloclen.

FFS, it has no G in it. I've told you a million times how to say it, now take some bloody notice!!

  14. Because they do.
