Question:

Why do people always say "what will those tattoos look like when you're older..."?

...when I could say the same thing about their body!

We all get wrinkly and saggy and their b*****s don't look like b*****s anymore and maybe my tattoo wont look like a picture anymore! lol

Is it really such a good reason to bash them!

Just wondering if anyone else noticed that we ALL get saggy, tattoos or not tattoos.

(who wears a two piece bikini when they are 80 anyway) :)

Thanks for your thoughts!

  1. My thoughts:

When you're old you can look back at your clean-untattooed skin and think "Man, shoulda got that, but now I can't cuz my skin is too wrinkly"

Or, you can look back at your awesome but dull artwork and be like, man, i Used to be kickASS!

  2. Because old tattoos faded a lot or blurred. But now days our ink is much better & lasts  nicely for years. & People always have to add their 2 cents.

  3. Most people probably say that because tattoos are a fairly permanent body modification - more so even than piercings, because piercing hardware can be removed, which would make the piercing less noticeable (or possibly even close up, depending on how fresh it is). It's probably even more extreme than scarification, visually anyway, because most of the time those fade to skin color and are thus harder to see.

Most people are fairly uncomfortable with doing something that will be with them their entire lives; after all, look at how infrequently people change their hairstyles, and that's something that's definitely transient. And there is still a lot of stigma surrounding tats; so for those people, it might be more comfortable for them to say, "Think of how it will look when you're 80!" than, "I think it will make you look like a s**t/biker scum/delinquent." (shrug) People will always have opinions of you, on everything from how you do your hair to how you raise your kids. You have to do what's right for you. Which is why I have a tat :)

  4. Tattoos rock. I will rock when I'm 80. F*uuck what society says. (=

  5. they fade

  6. Because some people are convinced that we will all regret our tattoos someday. I usually point out what you do, "what is the rest of me going to look like when I'm 80??" Every single one of us are going to be saggy and wrinkly, tattoos or not. We're just going to be a little more interesting!

  7. I hear that same question a lot. I have both sleeves, my chest, and ribcage tattooed. I guess they say it because they are jealous. All of my tattoos have a meaning behind them. I like to look at myself and know my life has been eventful enough for me to have so much done. I am only 24, and I've experienced as much as people twice my age. Don't worry about what other people say, they were probably just too afraid to get one. I plan on displaying mine proudly at the age of 80.

  8. I totally agree.

I have 7 tattoos, and my mom is always like, "Erin, what's that going to look like when you're 50?"

    WHO CARES?

It's not like i'm going to be wearing the clothes im wearing now when I'm 50, for god's sake.

But, I think she's mostly concerned with what my kids and what their kids are going to think about it.

I agree with you, though. ^.^

  9. Speak for yourself. I am still going to look good in 50 years.

  10. if you want to bash them go ahead ..

  11. nothing sadder than droopy saggy old b***s, to think at one time they were perky and upright and are now saggy and sad. so few b***s, so little time, lol

  12. I guess they are concerned about the decision on the tattoo. They don't want you to regret it someday.

  13. ha i just think by the time im 50-80 years old.. i would i would have the money to just get it removed if i really WANTED too

  14. because ppl arent smart enough like u :)

  15. Just say that if the tattoo doesn't look good in X years time, you'll get it covered with a nice new one.

I'm 51 by the way, and still getting tattooed.

  16. Because they don't understand that with people being more aware of how to take care of themselves not everyone who gets all wrinkly and saggy when they get old.

  17. I hate that too. And they say it like you'll be the only 80 year old with tatts. Our whole generation and several others will all grow old together with tatts and piercings and big stretched lobes. So what if the kids make fun of us. Kids make fun of old people now, and they dont have tattoos. And I think by the time I've got to 80 I hope I'll have got past caring what people think of me.

  18. Although tattoo's aren't as taboo as they once were, I think a lot of people still have aversions to them.

I don't know why they say that, but I've heard it more than a few times.

You do have a point that we all sag and we all age; truthfully I think if you get a tat where it's not always in plain view (like one on a shoulder blade/back)  it won't be horrible when you're older. I don't always think people see the meaning some tattoos have (like those with your kids' names, portraits, et cetera--but those that have a meaning), and that when they say it, it's like a slap in the face.

Also now with Freedom Ink, not all tats HAVE to be permanent.

  19. Haha, dont pay any attention to those losers. I have a tat on my breast thats always visible, and I LOVE it, it was a great choice for me and i dont regret it at all, even though I know that when I am 50 ill look like an old biker chick because of it. LOL- can you imagine an old granny with a big ol' tiger claw on her breast coming to school to pick up her little grandbabies?? Very grandma bikerish- but hey, if you love your tats and you dont regret it, than who cares- Your not promised tomorrow anyways- You could die tomorrow and never reach 50- so why torture yourself? live for today, even with tattoos- live for today- if you want it, get it- theres no promise you will even see next week.

  20. Pshh.  Forget 80 year olds, most tattoos look trashy on 20 year olds.  It's not quite as bad as smoking, but it's up there as far as deal breakers for me.  They say a lot about a person and how easily impressionable that person is.  I'm a big fan of doing what makes you happy though, and this is just my opinion.
