  1. Maybe it's because they've seen some children homeschooled and are completely sheltered so they associate the whole group with the people they've seen.

Kinda like how you just said people always think homeschooled kids are strange and antisocial, when I go to a public school (well, more of an academy in a public school) and do not think that. Actually, it's exactly the same. People are judgmental and basically say "Oh, one person is like that/does that, therefore everyone does."

  2. People might think that from personal experience.

Or they might be thinking of the homeschooled kids whose parents don't let them do anything.

In my area, many (if not most) of the kids are homeschooled. Most of them are just normal teenagers, but some have extremely strict parents who think that everything any teenager can do is sinful, they still dress their kids, into middle school and high school, etc, etc.

Those are the kids who people are thinking about when they're thinking that homeschooled kids are strange.

If someone upsets you, talking about homeschooled kids, lay down the truth, and tell them that it bothers you. If they continue, don't talk to them. And if they try to talk to you, or won't leave you alone, tell them that if YOU can't make them stop, then you're going to go get somebody who will. (A parent, pastor, or even just a big bully you know...)

I went to a private school most of my life, then I was homeschooled, now I'm in public school, and I also do online homeschooling during the summer.

Just, as long as you don't become one of those homeschoolers who think that all public-school kids are immature, trend-following losers, you'll be fine, because it's really not true. Take it from someone who's been to THREE different types of schools.

    Hope it helps. =D

  3. i say they have no clue as to what really happens with us homeschooled kids, what they dont realize is we are developing more postiviely in the world.  im also 15 and in grade 10 and ive ben homeschooled since grade 7... my personal opinion is they are close minded people, i really enjoy homeschooling its so versatile n im able to work as  i can in between everything else... so i agree it really angers me that people think we are weird n antisocial cuz they seriously dont got a clue

  4. I wish I was homeschooled.

I'm anti-social and I'm taught in a private school (surrounded by annoying people).

It's just bias'. You know there's nothing wrong with you or homeschooling so don't let those people's words get into your head.

  5. omg me too, i'm 15 and in 10th grade, and once someone asked me if i ever went to the mall...that really made me mad, i guess people just don't know, all they see of homeschoolers is what other people say abt us.  however there are quite a few socially deprived homeschoolers which give us a bad name

  6. What's my view? That there are a lot of ignorant people out there who are quick to judge and too closed-minded to consider other possibilities than their initial thought that homeschooling must mean being home all the time.

  7. People think homeschooled kids are strange and antisocial, because homeschooled kids are usually more mature than the average publicschooled kids.  Usually, they act more adult than people expect, and they find that strange.  Also, hs kids usually don't follow the clothing fads and stuff as tightly as publicschooled kids do.  HS kids usually have more of an idea of what they really want out of life and how to get there than kids the same age in public school.  HS kids usually see how silly ps kids are even out in public, and they tend to be a bit more serious than that -- well, of course, we like to have a good time, but we laugh when things are funny, not when they're just silly.  HS kids tend to get along well with people of all ages, not just those within one year of their own age.

If that's "strange", I'll take strange any day!

  8. Ignorance, fear, and guilt.

There are many myths out there about homeschooling, fueled by media images, books, and frightened teacher's unions.  This is no different than any other form of prejudice, in which a group of people is scapegoated to take the attention of the people away from their own problems  (the lousy educational system in this country.

The fear factor comes from the teacher's unions, which face a loss of jobs as the homeschooling movement grows.  Some, although not all, of these unions are willing to spread rumors, myths, and downright lies so that parents will not homeschool.

Finally, homeschooling families awaken a deep-seated feeling of guilt in many parents.  These parents KNOW they are short-changing their kids.  Being around homeschooled kids and families awakens that guilt.  Guilt is uncomfortable.  Is it easier to deal with it by labeling the other person (a homeschooler), rather than make a major change in their life.

    Hope this helps.

    All the best.

  9. because of the national spelling bee.  god, just look at those kids.   i know a lot of public school kids that are weirder than homeschoolers, though.

  10. I think people are just insecure that you get better grades.

  11. hello i homeschool my 2 girls. 17yrs & 10 yrs. what social butterflies and can they talk. My advise is ignore them. They have to find problems with homeschooled kids or theres would have problems and they normal do lol. chin up read these views. join a forum for homeschooling. so you and others can all share there views more often. good luck kind regards

  12. Oh let them talk. They are just idiots. Personally I don't think this is true, but even if they are some "weird and antisocial" people or kids out there do you blame them? Have you really taken a good look at what they world has to offer out there? I only wish I could become weird and antisocial just so I don't have to deal with the screwed up people out there. There are way too many to count. You can thank the school system and parents for that one.
