Why do people answer a question that has 40 answers saying the same thing just in different ways?

i just asked a question and got 40 answers and about 35 of those answers all said the same thing

to get points, and because Y!A is fun

sometimes when i answer a question, noone has answered it yet but by the time it shows up, there are other answers too.  tons of people on YA and many answer at the same time :)  plus, some type slower than others
