  14. well, I guess for self confidence.  A lot of people feel they are unattractive and even if they are good looking the self confidence might scare away the opposite s*x and make them feel even more unattractive.  So, I think that if they need other people to tell them that they are a 8 or a 3, they can either do something to make it better or feel good and get more dates.

  15. A generation ago there was a movie with Bo Derrek, and it was called "10". The concept of the movie was that she was perfect and unattainable. From there, pop culture started using 10 as the benchmark for perfection, and then men and women started rating each other on that scale.  "She's a 10"  "He's a 5".   It may have been used before then (perhaps the entimology of the title) however, it wasn't popular until 1979...

  16. most people just want to know where they stand compared to their peers or in the public eye...

  17. because those people cant make it to the scale of eleven thats why they why they stick to ten!

  18. I don't really see anything wrong with that. Some are just curious to see what others think of them. Most people want to see how good they look to others that do not know them as friends or buddies, therefore removing the bias.

  19. it's an ego booster

  20. Who knows..
