Question:

Why do people ask questions here instead of just looking it up?

I can't believe how many people ask questions here, when perfectly good answers are already out there online.

I just don't get it, you have to wait for someone to respond, and more than half the answers you get aren't even right.

Is it laziness, stupidity, both?

  1. Well if you are talking about specific answers as in to math questions etc--then i agree -they would be better off looking online or in a book so they know they are getting the correct answer--but for other questions about relatinships. family matters, clothes, make up etc--they just want peoples opinions-and this is a good place to get a lot of those:)

  2. welll why are you asking questions huh????

and maybe because they want to kno wat ppl think about their question

  3. both lazyness and stupidity

  4. I usually do look things up,  but I can't look up peoples opinions (Well i can, but not always) so I ask it here.  I also might have a specific question that nobody else ever needs to answer, but someone will put two and two together to give me an answer.  Like "Can I use hot glue on this robot instead of super glue?"

I might not be able to find it on the internet, because Nobody else has tried to do that and posted it on the internet.  But someone may see the question who has build the robot and can give me what they think will happen (Like if there is a lot of force on the glue).  Or they could try it.

Another reason is if it is a very specific math question.

    Like:

    1543*x=x+5*3

Yes, it is an easy algebra question, but google calculator might not get it.  They could look up how to do it, but then they have to find a way to apply the knowledge to it (The example on how to do it might be 2344*x=x+8 and they can't figure out what to do with the *3 after they do the same steps as the example).  But real people with more knowledge can apply it better.

Other than that it's both, laziness and stupidity

because they might not be able to use search engines or don't feel like it.

  5. its social

  6. I don't mind- it hones my own research skills and gives me a challenge.

  7. ...i think its healthier this way....it promotes interaction...tho not physically....but at least we know we are "talking" to a living person on the other end of the line....

...tho its better if u ask your teachers or frens directly...but at 2am or 5am????

...at times the questions are not meant to be answered...just simply needing someone to "listen" to...like "I HATE MATHS!!!!!".....

...or at times personal experience are needed....presumably u can find it online...but when someone answers...it helps....

...then there of coz for some its juz for the fun of it...like "is the moon made of cheese".....

    ...take a KIT KAT.....

    ...and many more reasons....

..last but not least...i think to most...placing a question here is complementery but not as a substitute.....

PS...i am not surprised tis question ended in the Engineering section.

  8. both laziness and stupidity.

I've seen one guy who wants to buy 10 large wind turbines, probably worth $100M. He keeps asking where to buy them. I keep pointing him to a list of manufacturer's web sites.  I finally realized he didn't know how to click on a link.

Once he came back and said he couldn't find his way around GE's web site. Major stupidity, all he had to do was click on "contact me" at the bottom of every page and fill in the form.

But apparently he could do nothing except ask questions here, that's all he learned to do, so he asks the same question over and over, 8 times so far. Pathetic!
