Why do people ask you to add them to your profile .........?

Just to find out they are only there to ignore you ??? What is the point in being someone's friend ?

I was wondering the same thing- I'm no help but they usually don't even have a reason- for me it seems that they may have liked the answer to my question? I have no idea. lol.
