Why do people assume that if the Conservatives were in power they would swoop in and save Britain?

Do people not see how similar Labour and the Torys are? I can't see that the Conservatives will make much difference. However, if you think so please try to convince me otherwise.

  1. Conservatives will make things worse.

  2. the conservatives have always had to clear up labours mismanagement

  3. no need to convince u... briton does not need saving but brits and yanks have always worked together to benefit both

  4. 0f course they would make a difference:

For the better if you are rich.

for the worse if you are poor or marginalised.

  5. I do not think that a single political party could find an immediate answer to the mess we are in. We need a coalition of all the best brains but Brown and Darling would need to be left out of the equation.

  6. Most people on here are right - Labour and Conservatives are very similar in the policies and vision.

The problem is that the UK has traditionally has a two-party political system.

The Liberal Democrats as a third party in the UK is becoming stronger and stronger.  It could be opposition in the next two general elections and possibly the government in three.

More and more of the UK electorate is turning to the Lib Dems as an alternative the main two parties.

Whether or not we agree with the Lib Dems, we have to support them as a third way.

The UK is no longer a two-party political system and we have to get used to that.

  7. like most of the commentators on here, I think there is no difference between New Labour or the Tories. They are both parties of big business and will benefit their rich backers before ordinary people - he who pays the piper calls the tune.

Look at Northern Rock - Brown nationalised that to help the banking industry, but what did Blair do when Rover was going bankrupt a few years ago? Nothing.

We need a new party to stand up for ordinary people. (See source). Otherwise there is, in most cases, no politcal party worth voting for anymore.

I don't agree that the Tories will rescue us, or that the present financial crisis is the fault of New Labour alone. It is the blowback from the housing crisis that originated in the USA last year, with the collapse of Bear Sterns and other large banks, and the resulting collapse of confidence in financial markets worldwide.

  8. When i was a young girl (& not interested i politics) I heard on TV about a political party called 'The monster raving loonie party' led by 'Screaming Lord Sutch'. Now the details are very sketchy (did he dress like a clown?) It was a very long time ago.

He could have been the one to sort out this countries mess.

He probably would have dropped through the floor if he ever got voted in though, lol

It was a sad day when he died. :-(

  9. I agree with you

but some people might be in the frame of mind that Labour aren't doing the best job so another party could only make things better

  10. I think people are willing to take a chance on anyone to get rid of the useless, corrupt, shower of shite, in power at present.

  11. Conservatives were in power before.

And they made no useful difference whatsoever.

  12. There is little difference between any of the three parties. One day a party will have the guts to redress the imbalance between rich and poor by increasing tax on the wealthier and closing the loopholes in which they evade tax. Then we can return to free dental ,prescriptions, education, school meals ,glasses etc.We had all of these when we were a much poorer country. But then we allowed the MP,s to live outside the real world and become rich enough not to need these because they can afford to go private.

  13. I assume the Tories will have to swoop in and save the country once again.

They have had to do it in the past, after the useless labour government of the late seventies messed things up, ( much the same as what the labour government has done today)

It took the Tories many years and caused a lot of hardship for the people before the country was back on its feet.

Now we will have to suffer the Tory years once again to get the country back on its feet.

Blame the muppets who thought labour was the answer to all their prayers and kept voting for them.

The tax and spend policies of this labour government will have to be paid for no matter who gets into power at the next election.

  14. I do not believe too many are really as stupid as you imply are they? It was not the Conservative Candidate that swept Labour from power in the recent Glasgow East bi-election?

No, as you imply the policies of Labour, Conservative and Liberal Democrats are almost identical and their MPs are really all in bed together with the same aims and same basic policies, centred on lining their own pockets. As you suggest I wonder are there really many voters anywhere in the U.K. who genuinely believe that if Brown had not "bottled out" of calling a General Election back in October 2007, and if the Conservatives had indeed won that Election in October 2007  that the disastrous situation today would be any different? The only difference if Brown had not bottled out of that Election would be that Labour would probably have taken Henley and would have gained landslide victories in both Crewe and Glasgow East bi-elections and the Cameron Tory government would be talked about as "Britain's most incompetent ever".

  15. conservatives will make things worse. i think people cannot remember the last time...or dont want to....PLEASE do not bring that kind of lifestyle back. Labour may be ballsing up somewhat but it could (and will if the conservatives gain power) be much much worse...esp for the very young and very old people- ie the vulnerable.

  16. Why do people assume? Because they are ignorant of the true nature of politics. As stated, there is nothing different between the two major party's.They care not which of them is in power because they have the same objectives. I have a simple Q for doubters of my theory.... When did one of them, after spending years in opposition opposing the legislation introduced, once having gained power, ever rescinded that legislation? A? NEVER. This "lesser of two evils" of which you speak is what has helped the big two keep a stranglehold on the electorate.

I cannot convince you otherwise because I share your opinion, an opinion that hopefully is spreading throughout the wider electorate. Neither of them are worthy of your vote they are traitors all. Given that no other party has the financial wherewith-all to present a decent challenge to their monopoly, the only "solution" I can think of is that every voter, and I mean near enough every voter, puts their X in the independent candidates box. The reason these people are standing as independents is because they too are sick of what is going on. I have said this time and time again, the big two need a kick up the jacksy, our only "voice" is at the ballot box, once in power, "they" do what they like to us.

Let them know we have had enough, put your X to their b****x and remind them that WE are in charge. No longer do we need to let the tail wag the dog. The citizens of Britain "saved" the country, how many politicians were on the fighting front?
