Why do people automatically think cheerleaders are air-heads//whores? ?

I imagine it's because(playing devil's advocate here) they jump around in revealing clothing spouting stupid phrases that mean nothing off the field, and always seem so damned UP, which no normal person can do. Again, I'm playing devil's advocate, these are not my opinions, they're a conglomeration of others' opinions that I've heard. I know not all cheerleaders are stupid/whores/ etc. I had many friends who were cheerleaders in high school.

Decades of stereotyping and bad high school movies. It's the same reason why everyone thinks all jocks are pea-brained muscle heads, and all geeks are geniuses.
