I mean why mispronounce words on purpose, this isn't helping your baby at all with speech? I mean you can be silly with a baby, but atleast pronounce the words correctly. I mean instead of going "googag agababgag" you can go "Who's a good little boy/girl, yes you are!". So, why do some people baby talk babies.

  1. Well goo goo and gaga and ba ba and ma ma etc are all the first sounds that babies make.  SO most of us know that and may be trying to facilitate that kind of speech, considering they have to say those things before they can say other things.

  2. Because they are annoying and usually have less intelligence than the baby they are actually trying to communicate with! I banned anyone speaking to my daughter like this. My mother was the worst, she'd call her nappies 'nakies' and instead of telling her what she was about to have for lunch and naming the foods so she could learn and recognise them, they would tell her she was having 'yum yums'. Used to drive me mad, but I soon got on their nerves just as much each & every time I corrected them!

  3. babies respond better to female voices which are higher pitched, so as a natural instinct men and women and children make their voices higher. most people see babies and think awwww so cute and go all soft and happy. and if you talk to a baby normally they won't respond so much talk to the baby in a higher weird voice they go all giggly and respond alot better.hope this helped

  4. I dont let people talk to my daughter unless they are speaking clearly. This has made alot of people mad but I dont care. I sometime mock her when she says things like coo and just mumbles but I also add does that mean momma or daddy or are you hungry. I have in-laws that do that and it bugs me to death. And it can make there speach develop late and wrong. My neice and nephew did talk clearly untill they was 3-4 years old. They only ever where talked to like that. I have raised a girl that is now 4 and she was talking at her first birthday. Only one to two words at a time but you could understand her and knew what she wanted. I wish more people who be concerned about this.

  5. I don't know. I don't allow people to talk to my baby like that. Maybe the first time but after that, I tell them that I don't want my child talking like that so we don't talk to her like that. Sometimes people give me mean looks when it's the fifth time I've told them but it's cool.

  6. Because it's fun when they are tiny but when they are starting to talk, I start to talk properly then. Sometimes i use really long words with my 4 year old and he copies! It freaks people out.

  7. I actually don't recall anyone that has ever spoken gibberish around the baby....maybe other than to repeat what the baby's saying.  I'll have to take note next time....

  8. So what it is fun - - - don't make a big deal about it.

You think your baby is going to grow up saying googaagagoa NO he/she won't.  They will eventually learn how to talk properly by 14-18 months.

My baby understands and speak three languages and when she was younger I used to talk baby talk to her SO!!!

    I think it is cute.
