Why do people beleive the propganda that Georgia started the Georgia/Russia conflict?

I eman come on Russia was planning this for months they jsut happened to have 50000 men and 1000 tanks jsut sitting on the border the same day as the olympics? looks a little fishey to me......I mean I've look at all the things and I can tell that Russia started it Georgia started a crack down on Russian backed Rebals within Georgia's borders(witch they have the right to do) and than russia freaks out and send in this hugh massive army as a "peacekeeping force" invasion forces are not peackeeping forces peackeeping forces do not go on military offensives and they do not bomb civilan airports......

I just want to get a feel for how many people have brougt into the proganda and how many see the truth.......

Oh dont give me that C**P..My wife grew up under the old soviet union..She even said Russia never left its soviet roots..Their just restructuring..Russia even admitted that S.Ossetia belongs to Georgia..

So Russia throw's out easy citizenship's to the S.Ossetian's since the last cease fire,just so they can do what their doing now..Georgia did'nt INVADE anything since technically S.Ossetia is a part of Georgia..

The bigger the lie... I figure that's the Russian position for a long time.

Besides, those "Russian citizens" they're claiming to protect in reality are locals who were given Russian passports by Russia in violation of all international laws and agreements signed by them too. So, you can't really evacuate them that easy.

It's pretty much same as if France gave french passports to all french Canadians and then invade Canada to "protect" its citizens abroad.

Historically, Adolph Hitler used exactly same justification back in 1938 to occupy first Sudetenland and then Czech republic... To protect oppressed Germans over there.

P.S. Georgian president did offer shelter, autonomy and money to rebuild the region. Not to kill everyone over there.

As for the rest as far as I know there was shelling and shootings from SO side starting august 1st.

S.O. was autonomous republic. By which law Georgia "must" give S.O. independence especially after local Georgian population was killed or driven out by force (Russian backed force)?

If all autonomous republics "must" be given independence today's Russia would've been 15-20% of what it is now considering that Russia itself has more than 50 autonomous republics like S.O.

True About War - I'm just curious did you support Chechen's fight for their independence? They were saying same thing, and if S.O. was part of Georgian land for over 1000 years Russia conquered Chechnia and all of Caucasus by force only couple hundred years ago.

And by what account S.O. is "independent"? Russian passports, Russian money, salaries for all official structures are paid by Russians, although according to certain pissed off Russians S.O. doesn't pay any taxes... All supplies from arms to medicals come from Russia.

The only reason S.O. has Russian support is because S.O. doesn't want "independence", but wants to join Russia.

In case you forgot how Russia deals with those nations who want independence just look up Chechnya. Do you really think Russia will do anything different to you if you ever decide to do something independent?

I agree with the guy above. Russia doesn't want to look like a coward since Kosovo declared independence. So Mr. Putin and the ex-KGB guys decided, "Hey, if Kosovo broke away from Serbia, then let's do the same with South Ossetia! h**l, we'd even bring our troops in, too."

It's all post-Cold war rivalries. Not to mention they don't want Georgia in NATO as Georgia is in Russia's strategic backyard.

EDIT: If this conflict ever ends, a EU or UN peacekeeping force will be sent in to safeguard South Ossetia. Russian peace keepers sent to South Ossetia was a bad idea because it increased hostilites with Georgia and Russia. I am not picking neither side, but I believe Russia's propaganda is really brainwashed. Look at Russia Today's news. I am 2/4 Russian myself.

Hey "true about war" I sympatize with whats happening in your land.war is horrible.But its not that russians love your land and your people, but, because, russians hate the Georgians for the latter's intention of joining Nato and EU.They want that all independent countries within their vicinity to be under its sphere of influence.Like a buffer zone or bodyguards for a VIP.Like the Syrians on Lebanon against Israel.In deplomacy thats referred to as meddling in an internal affair of a independent and a democratic state.

The other point why Russia was so eager to invade Georgia was to send a signal to the West that if they accept Georgia in Nato, of course they will be dragged into a military conflict that is seemingly a regional problem.Which is not a good gamble on the side of the war-conscious EU countries

God,  u make such a  good sence, i have been reading what ppl write about it, they seem so bling and foolish, and u really make a good logic, i wish smart ppl like u were wornikn in the UN or EU, coz they have been dicsussing this war/conflict during coupla days and no resolutions YET! YET coz russia continues bombing the whole Georgia, ppl die from those bombing and no1 wakes Up, no1 opens their eyes and does anything against it, dont they know that by pooling time and by being silent they help russia to be this aggresive towards Georgia

oh, georgia was just an opportunity. After kosovo, Russia was just looking for a way to flex its muscle.

People, this is a media war just as much as this is one with guns. Georgia poked the bear and expected the west to protect, thats not going to happen. The level of misinformation in america is astounding.

You been there& you actually saw our troops gather up and invade??? NO. So, quit this *itching. We tried to evacuate them, but the georgians opened sniper fire even at the ambulances, for pete's sake! They butchered kinds and elderly. We are required to help under the conditions of a peace treaty. If someone attacked your base in, say, east germany of whatever, you would've sent your troops immediately. What makes you higher than us? You been using us as a bulldozer to crash germans in both world wars and tried to critisize us for checniya, whic is our territory! I am not on anyone's side. But you're not seeing the full picture.

For starters, Russia is trying to show it's strength under Putin. He already started this by increasing spending for the military, resuming Cold War era bombing patrols near US and European coastlines, and threats over the Missile shield we were trying to construct.

They are also going to get a nice bit of territory, as the separatist government in South Ossetia wants to become once again, part of Russia. It will position them better against NATO and US interests. Georgia is a major US ally, and they are currently one of the entry-points of non-Russian oil pipelines. Georgia has been attempting to become part of NATO, which Moscow doesn't like, they "feel threatened" by the circle of new NATO nations around them.

I'm not noticing anyone mentioning the Oil-pipeline going through Georgia. Russia has control over most of these pipelines which give the West oil. The strategic value of having your enemies Oil supply is incredible.

You know i lived in south osettia. My country is devided into 2 parts, south and north ossetia. North osettia is in Russia. South osettia is free and independent. Georigia trought all the history wanted to take south osettia to Georgian land, they said that we are Georgians too but it lie, we are osettian people, we are indepentendent.

Georgian president declare us war, he destroed my city Tsinval now it is in ruin. In my land there are living a lot of russians who were killed too. Georgian president said that h**l destroy all of us.

So russian brothers hepl us to f@ck of georgian occupants.

Now Georgian president SUUKAVSHILY want to get in NATO to have its power to kill of us. If he would be in nato russia couldnt help us.
