Why do people believe in "magic", ghosts, deities, and other such fairy-tale nonsense?

To answer the hecklers, I have been actively and intelligently researching THIS subject for nearly 35 years!!!! I am no stranger to this line of thought... in fact, I live a mere miles away from Gettysburg, PA and have made specific tri[ps there to "investigate" ghosts. And NOTHING! I have dated a Wiccan for 6 years and in that 6 years she was never able to "cast a spell" that worked and was never able to PROVE so-called "magick" and YES I HAVE AN OPEN MIND!!!!! Otherwise, I wouldn't be here asking this delicate question!

The closest I have come to "the Truth" is that everything that different cultures 'believe in' is a watered-down version of the ORIGINAL SUMARIAN texts. AND, these same texts describe US as being descendants of a race beyond our earth!

So, before you dismiss me as an uneducated idiot, keep in mind that I have nearly 35 years of INTENSE research to influence my mind!

I CHALLENGE ANYONE TO PROOOOOOOOVE THE EXISTENCE OF "MAGICK"!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  1. LOL, you need to do some research. Its not nonsense.

  2. You offered the opportunity to have something explained. - Ive read your posts and I have to admit they are Rude and I feel you are talking from an uneducated point. Have you ever thought of actually  looking into the subject?

Nonsense? as a matter of fact it's all SENSE. Science and Magick go hand in hand. Deities? I take it you are athiest then? - For many witches Deity is just an energy. Why we use names is only to tap into a certain energy. Say you want to kill an addiction you need energy that helps to do away with that addiction so you call on a goddess of death. That is merely a symbol of the energy to help us channel it. Call it spychology but it works. Psychologist use this "magick" in their work.

So are you telling me that you do not believe in science either? Energy exists, are you telling me that you do not believe in that either? Emotions can be measured as energy during laboratory testing.

I hope you would take your time in doing research and actually giving it a chance and an open mind before you start talking about old beliefs that have been with us for a long time.

You do not sound at all intelligent by putting them down and calling it all fairy-tale nonsense. As a matter of face you give way to your ignorance. You shine a spotlight on it for all to see.

  3. Because it brings them comfort and gives meaning to their lives. And why are so dismissive of other people's beliefs? Are you jealous?

  4. Why don't you believe in these " fairy-tale nonsense" things?  How do you know that this is all nonsense?  And are you sure that this is all nonsense? Can you prove that these things don't exist? There are so many things in this world and in our universe that we cannot explain and that we don't know about. It doesn't make sense to say that we are the only things ( human beings ) that exist. There are new discovery's every day. But we just haven't found out yet. Have you ever seen something from the unknown?  People close their eye's to the things that they don't understand and that scares them. Their excuse is they just do not exist. NO ONE can say that things don't exist in this world and it's really sad that people don't want to discover new things or learn about things that they don't understand. I've seen some of those things that people like you say don't exist or are fairy-tales. I've seen and heard ghosts and I'm not crazy nor am I making up fairy-tales. I have no reason to. If you don't believe then that's your disbelief and I feel sorry for you and your closed eye's and closed mind. You'll never experience the things that are right in front of your face. Learn before you say that this is all fairy-tale land and the people who believe are crazy. There are why to many people out there that say they've experienced something even the non-believers.

  5. I am Celtic Pagan and believe anything is possible. I believe that there are many things in this world that most people do not believe in becuase society dictates that they are not real. So most people put blinders on and refuse to see things.

  6. because they dont see it as non-sense. why does anyone believe in anything?  it works for them, thats why.

  7. Because they're real.  Just because you've never experienced something doesn't mean it's not real.  I've never been to Thailand, but other people have.  I take it from them that it really is there.  I've never had typhoid fever, but once again...

  8. I believe it's partly because of faith, and like what Clarkie said, similar to our beliefs in heaven, miracles and such. These kind of beliefs give us a sense of fear - They tell us things like that we do not own the world.

Also, according to some (well, a lot, actually) people, the supernatural do exist.

I've heard and read countless stories about ghost encounters, people casting black magic and so on.

There are just so many of these stories, sometimes one just can't help but accept the fact that there is a possibility that these stories may be true.

Do some research ; the results may help you understand even better.

  9. That is a good question.

  10. for the same reason that people believe in god, or heaven, or angels, or miracles.  Because it gives them hope, and brings them  joy.  Who are you to put that down?

  11. Wow Shadow! I couldn't have said it better myself!

  12. i could say the same about religion

but ya see i respect peoples rights to belief in whatever they wanna believe be it little green men from space or the easter bunny!
