Why do people blame the president for everything, when congress has more power over what actually happens?

Sure Bush started the Iraq war, but Congress has voted to pay for it every time the issue has come up.

Congress is the only branch that is allowed to allocate money, and yet Bush is blamed for the deficit. Yes, the war has cost a lot, but all of the congressmen who disagree with it have done nothing to stop it.

Congress voted for the Patriot Act.

I could go on and on, but I think that you get the picture.

And yes I realize that Congress has lower rating than Bush does, but why wont people vote them out!?

  1. the Dem's own house and senate a bunch  of loathing disgusting immoral Representatives that don't give a **** about any of us, just like the dem president we had BC that should have stopped Bin Laden before the next president went in.  Dem's  love passing the buck and then blame the others.

  2. Until 2006, Congress was Republican controlled. They rubber-stamped the President's misfeasance and malfeasance because they believed in the imperial Presidency, allowing the despot in the Executive branch to usurp their Constitutional duty to check and balance his abuses of power.

It was the greatest tragedy in modern American public administration.

  3. Sad but true, why do we have to blame any of them... its our faults they are in power, both the pres and congress.  Time to say bye bye to the whole lot.  We need nationalist, not dems or reps.

  4. We need to look in the mirror and chastise ourselves.  Too many folks vote party lines without doing their homework!

  5. because they dont have any understanding of the government

they see the president as an all mighty ruler cuz thats where all the media is

they also obviously did not pay attention when learning about checks and balances in school

i have noticed that people think nothing of congress

im 13 and i knew that for crying out loud!

  6. there is no excuse for the way congress has been conducting business. congress -democrat and republican- should completely cleaned out and new congress people should be elected; however this does not excuse the president for his betrayal of the american people.

yes, congress does fund the war; however if congress did not fund the war, the troops would be the only ones who suffer. obviously bush is a stubborn 'man', there is nothing to say he would not keep the troops there until he gets the funding he wants.

NAFTA is a major cause of the deficit. democrats are strongly against NAFTA these days. the business of the next president should be to reform the agreement. congress could do so, but it would be hard to get by the bush administration.

congress voted for the patriot act based on the 'information' the bush administration supplied them with.

you are correct congress does have more power than bush; however, congress must also carefully create bills that bush will not veto or sit on. carefully creating these bills means taking into account the american public's wishes and determining whether the bill will please the president.

    edit

number one: your question said deficit. it didn't say 'government deficit'.

number two: the patriot act is a joke, but nonetheless congress was told that it was the best, most efficient way to find terrorists. if they hadn't passed it and another terrorist hit, they would have been blamed. it is simple politics.

number three: of course NAFTA was passed by democrats and democrats have since realized the mistakes of NAFTA and are calling for a revision. NAFTA was created to bring work to impoverished nations but has been abused by greedy corporations and big businesses.

  7. It is easier to hate the president than those in congress.  However with congress having a lower approval rating than the president it makes me wonder if some of those on the other side of the isle will be returning in Jan. of next year.

  8. Because the average American voter is economically ignorant.  They think the president wields this huge amount of power and can control anything when in fact you are right.  Congress has much more control and should be to blame most of the time when things go bad.

  9. Congress has given Bush everything he's asked for . Makes me wonder how much dirt he has on them all . The elections are controlled by the Fascists elite .

  10. NAFTA might not contribute to the government deficit but it sure as h**l has made our country much worse off.
