Question:

Why do people bother with slogans like "give peace a chance"?

Peace is the default. Peace automatically gets a chance. And it gives way to conflict every time, because that is the natural order of things.

I just think it's so naive to advocate for peace, as if the desire for peace is some kind of unique viewpoint.

  1. Peace is not merely the absence of war.

It is a set of values and beliefs that prevent war from occurring.

It is a resolve that says, "We MUST find an alternative."

It is based on an understanding of the true cost of war, for once we know the true cost, we will never risk it.

  2. Yeah - It's certainly lost its meaning over time.... It's too 'broad' a concept to have any real significance really.

  3. EVERY BODYS SICK OF WAR......

  4. Your assertion that peace is the natural order of things, thereby being simply a lack of war is not correct.  One cannot have peace if the mind is at war.  There is no peace with a perverted world view.

People seek only temporary peace and never eternal.  When people speak of giving peace a chance, they mean to commit oneself and society to the prospect of a prolonged brotherhood.

That is a very rare viewpoint to possess, indeed.

  5. it is a little corny but people do it because as human we tend to be influenced by what we see and hear and by using this logan it might get people to work towards peace\.

  6. Very nice perception:

"Only the dead have seen the end of War."

    -Plato

  7. GIVE PEACE A CHANCE!
