  1. This answer varies with different drivers. some want to be winners, some want to create road rage, and some are just plain stupid. i see this everyday.

Best advice is to slow down and yield to them, the right of way.

  2. any more its defensive driving that's more important,,too many people just litter the road not paying attention to whats going on around them,,,,usually they don't even check the air in their tires and weave down the middle lane riding the line,,,   with cellphone stuck to ear,on Germany's super highway you must keep right,,,when you get a ticket its fine is according to your salary,,,,some people speed because they like to go fast,,,if I speed its to get away from road hazards,  I can handle the speed who knows what the road hazard is going to do,,normally I keep to the right and do a reasonable speed....speeders and road hog stragglers are the culprit,,,two wrongs don't make a right

  3. I don't know for many reasons I suppose, but when  you are going the speed limit why do you get stopped for driving too slow.  Last week after visiting my mom in a small town where I lived most of my life, i was going 45 in the 45, then it went down to a 30 zone and I went down to 30.  I got stopped and was asked why I was going so slow, to which I replied I was going the speed limit and I had precious cargo (meaning my granddaughter) and he shined the light in the back seat ( he thought I had something illegal lol) and I pointed to my granddaughter.  He said that sometimes slow drivers were a danger to speeders to which I replied well there's plenty of them out here aren't they (meaning WHY DON'T YOU GO GET THEM). Had never been stopped for going the speed limit, only when I was speeding.  Now, that's my story but it didn't answer your question.

  4. your saying then you never went over the posted limit.

  5. Speed limits are for the LOWEST COMMON DENOMINATORS on the road.  In other words, on any given street your local authorities have made a judgement call about how fast the most IDIOTIC person behind the wheel can safely drive, and that's the limit.

I'm talking to YOU, Mr. California pickup driving 20mph in a 45mph zone just because there's a little snow on the ground!

For the rest of us who PAY ATTENTION, don't talk/text, and know our vehicles intimately, we can go faster.

So get the h**l out of our way, you pansies!

  6. I believe the speed limit is a suggested average. Since I am above average, I get to go faster.

    <Sarcasm! Of course!>

  7. Speed is relative on the highway.  We are not so conscious of our absolute speed, but our speed with respect to others.  I cannot speak to the reason why we need to 'keep up' with those who are traveling faster, but I suspect that it is a competitive response.

Here's something to try.  Next time you are on the freeway, get into the slow lane and just drive the speed limit.  You will find that there will be a number of people that will follow and not try to pass you.  You have just succeeded in helping other people keep their speed down and make the freeway safer.  I've tried this in the past, and aside from all the off duty traffic court judges who will speed by and flip you off for holding them up, its really interesting to see what happens when you obey the law.

  8. Because laws are made to be broken and you can't say you never sped down the street. I have from time to time over stepped the limit usually if I'm late and it's not that far over if I do

  9. Impatience, adrenaline rush...

  10. It is fun to drive faster. and what is the use of powerful engines...

  11. i think this is becasue people nowadays don't really pay attention to their surroundings anymore. this is what separates a reckless speeder from a Wreckless speeder.

the faster and closer to its limits you drive your car, the more attentive you have to be. sadly very few driver go by this rule....

  12. Everyone, who has gotten behind the wheel of a vehicle, has sped at one point or another.

The point of concern are those people who speed habitually and recklessly.   These people are the threat to society.  These people think they can go 5 to 15 MPH over the speed limit, and it be OK.

We live in a rushed and busy society today.  People do not care about the speed limit.  They think they can go 5 to 15 MPH over the limit and be OK, but when they are pulled over, they get angry at the officer for pulling them over.

    Go figure. . .

  13. although speed limit is for safety purpose, the main reason why speed limit was introduced in the beginning was because of the concerns of fuel economy.

faster the cars go (after a certain limit) the more the fuel consumed. this is the primary reason why speed limit was introduced.

As to why people speed, can be various reasons, late for a meeting or some work, confidence (over-confidence) that they drive great and wont cause an accident, thrill, competition.
