What's the point of driving those jeep instead of cars?

is it just for look?

i mean it usually doesn't handle as easy and not as fast as other cars in terms of speed and is gas-gazzliing.

i just don't really understand it. But i'd love to hear why.

  2. A Wrangler is Convertible in the Summer and a 4WD SUV for the Winter snow.

As a Massage Therapist that lived in rural Southern Maryland and worked in DC, my Jeep gave the features above as well extra space for my Massage Table without taking up a huge amount of parking space. All with the baseline SE model of 2003.

In fact, now that I massage in Germany, I'm probably going to have it shipped out here rather than pay the horrible exchange rate to buy something half it's size and with more mileage.

Some people buy cars just to get from A to B, to show off, for utility, for comfort, etc...I think it really depends on the person.

  3. I'd ask about people in the new hummers or escalades, or Any other luxury SUV. At least a cherokee or a wrangler has a purpose aside from showing off.

  4. It's a JEEP thing, you wouldn't understand. I just had to say that.

A Cherokee is an SUV. It has more room and can carry more folks/stuff. People drive them for the same reasons other people drive Explorers, Tahoes, Blazers, Yukons, Pathfinders........ get the picture.

As for the Wrangler, It's about the most inexpensive convertable you can buy and you can take the doors off and modify them to your choosing.

If folks that drive Jeeps were worried about gas milage, they'd trade for an Econobox. Some of us like Jeeps and the Jeep history. Some of us like the option of "Go Anywhere" when we're ready for a little adventure. I drive to work every weekday to the city, but I live out in the sticks. We don't worry about how much it rains or snows, we'll be there to pull you out of the ditch or snowbank. Most of us enjoy doing it and we won't charge you as much as a wrecker service will.

    Happy Trails!

  5. They're certainly low-performance, but I wouldn't call them gas-guzzling.  Anyway, some people really like wranglers, and that's fine.   They're different. from anything else on the road, in a good way.

The cherokee/wagoneer is just a big station wagon.  Why anybody would drive that is a bit of a mystery.  A Wagoneer is NOT a Jeep thing.  It's just a big tall car.

  6. Why do you own the vehicle of your choice? Have you ever considered that not everyone is all about the small, cramped, stupid looking, sub compact economizers? Some peopleprefer form & function over economy.

  7. Because Jeeps are cool and people work in the city to earn money to drive offroad in the country.

  8. Because every car company is starting to make everything that they make fancy so even jeeps are for rich people now

  9. I can see your point that a Wrangler is best used off road but it will work just fine in the city too.  The Cherokee is just another SUV.  Its no worse than any other SUV around town but it is pretty good off road.  Maybe they cant afford 2 vehicles but want to do some trails.

Why do you assume that because its a Jeep the mileage is bad?  Cherokees dont get that bad of mileage.

  10. In city driving, I think it's just an amazing convertible.  I've been in different types of car convertibles but they all feel cramped and closed in when your sitting on the pavement with a huge box around you.  None compare to the openness of a Jeep with the top down.  I can cruise down country highways on the weekend and it's just a great experience.  In the city the same thing goes, I'm in an open convertible, I'm a little higher so I have better visibility, plus it's just a fun vehicle to cruise in.

The other great thing about my Wrangler is that while everyone can talk about a trip down the Pacific Coast highway with the top down, I also have the option of looking out, seeing a beautiful mountain and decide I want to see what's on the other side, and have a reasonable chance of making it up some unmaintained dirt road that no car could ever try.

Regarding handling and speed and such..  I've been in sports cars that rode worse than a go-kart and speeding around here is just a hassle with the crackdowns from state troopers, county sheriffs, county police and then city cops to top it off.  Which isn't to say I don't know some people who've had some fine speeding tickets on city streets and highways in their Jeep.

  11. Its a Jeep Thing.

Well most people don't own a car for the freeway, a car for the highway, a car for the city, and a car for the country.  So whatever they happen to own and drive is what they have.  I have a Jeep and I drive it everywhere including offroad.  Also the only gas guzzling jeeps are the jeeps that have V8's.  The 4.0L I6 engines are quite economical.  I average 18mpg city and 24mpg highway.  Find me another SUV that gets that type of mileage with the same offroad capabilities as a Jeep.  Jeep Wranglers aren't just for offroad.  They will work on paved roads and anywhere you want to drive them.

Just because you don't like them doesn't mean that they have to quit driving them around.

My Jeep is more comfortable to drive than a car, I can haul and tow with my jeep where as someone driving a POS car can't do either one.

I also agree with JOKER.  I use my jeep in the winter to pull people out of irrigation ditches that try to drive their d**n cars at highway speeds on ice and snow.  So its your choice $150 for a wrecker, or $75 for me to recover your vehicle.

  12. They have money and/or credit and can do whatever they want.

Live your life in a good way and enjoy.

Some will alway do things you do not like.

You'll enjoy life more if you move on from issues like this.

  13. I would never own a car,my Wrangler gives me a higher view over vehicles in front of me and is fun to drive.I haven't owned or driven a car since 1991.

  14. Because we are the true saviors of the planet.

The Jeep Wrangler has one of the lowest environmental costs in pollution terms than most other vehicles. Just because it uses a lot of fuel doesn't mean it is bad for the environment. Because it costs much less in energy terms to design/manufacture/repair/maintain/recyc... etc. it is much better for than the environment than a hybrid vehicle, the Prius for example.

Divide the environmental costs between all vehicles of a model made and per mile for the expected use of a vehicle the Jeep Wrangler cost to the environment is 60 cents per mile. The cost to the environment of driving the Toyota is about five times more per mile.
