Why do people call ketchup 'catsup'?

  4. If you look in the stores it is spelled both ways depending on the brand. I think heinz says ketchup and delmonte says catsup. The off brands have it both ways also.

    I think catsup is the traditional spelling.

    back in the day, apple was spelled apal.
