Question:

Why do people close questions so quickly?

I'm a teacher and my work computer has so many things blocked. I sometimes get on yahoo answers for a few minutes on my planning period and look at questions and answers, but I can't log on at work and answer. I often want to answer questions, but by the time I get home and have time in the evening to answer on my home computer, the questions are often resolved.

  1. Because we're all so darned used to the immediacy of the Internet!  And we love it!

  2. Well if a question gets answered to the askers satisfaction, why would they keep it open? Remember, this is about getting answers, not giving you a place to spout off about your ideas.

  3. Sometimes the questions are not necessarily "closed" by the person asking them.  Often times, and it seems like it is happening a lot lately, questions are removed by Y!A because someone has reported them.

  4. It is frustrating, isn't it?! I asked almost this exact question a month or so ago.

The answer that made the most sense to me said that they usually close a question when it has gone off the first page and hasn't had any new answers for awhile. I think I even did something like that with this very question! -- but not until waiting a couple of days.

And actually there was a question today that I wanted to answer that was closed in well under 5 hours. It was the question about Adoptive Parents feelling they were being heard, and I wanted to say that I do feel I'm being heard, pretty much, but that I feel that I'm more here to listen and share and not to be validated or whatever -- who comes on Y!A? to be validated? Yikes! Find some friends or a counselor in real life.

And I saw the question at work just like you, and when I went to answer it was already resolved. But at least I hadn't written a novel about it already!

But you know, I'm trying to just ignore this stuff (okay, not too successfully!). I'm guessing that the questions that are closed in a few hours are ones that are looking for a particular answer (which probably wouldn't have been mine anyway), or are playing some sort of game with the point system and best answers or something. Either way, maybe not worth my time?

Still frustrating though, much as a try to rationalize myself out of it. Oh well...

  5. I have only closed out 1 question early because I felt like I was misunderstood and decided I didn't need an opinion afterall.

  6. cuz you're slowwwww~~~stop playing on the internet and teach our youth

  7. I am guilty of closing them early because when I go back to check the answers, it asks for me to pick a best answer. I am new here so maybe I am doing something wrong.

  8. Often if I find that the answer I'm looking for is there, I will close the question quickly as not to waste other's time.

  9. I know how you feel, Erin.

Once I was answering a question, and when I clicked to submit it, a message came up that said it had been resolved. ;-(

  10. haha.. cause some people prob have nothing better to do than sit on yahoo all day. ive noticed that  as well.
