Why do people color lightning yellow in pictures, when it's normally white or purple?

When I was a kid, Power Rangers had a yellow lightning rod.

I'll bet in a decade, green will be the way to go.

becuase it is more fun color lighting yellow than it would be to leave it white

possibly because the sun is coloured yellow. Ever since the sun has been coloured yellow, sometimes red and orange but not the point, i think that all light sources have just been coloured yellow to show its significance. and the colour of the lightning varies because of how far the electrons go in the energy levels and come back, producing light.
