Why do people compare Harry Potter and Twilight?

So I haven't read Twilight so I wouldn't know, but from what I've heard, they aren't very similar. So why are they being compared so much?

They are very much different, but I'm confident that in the long run, Potter will go down in history while Twilight is just a distant memory.

it's weird actually, where harry potter has wizards and witches twilight has vampires and werewolves, they have little to nothing in common but they are compared because they are both successful books.

I love Harry Potter and have never read twilight series but i doubt twilight is as excellent as HP.

Whats really being compared is the sucess rate. Twilight is the biggest thing next to Harry Potter. It's impossible for some people NOT to compare them.

The critics are calling Stephenie Meyer the next JK Rowling. So we have a right to compare them.

When *I* compare them, I compare the writing skills (of which Meyer has none). But yeah, it is because of the success rate as someone else mentioned. They're not compared because of werewolves or muggles or anything. It's the success rate, and that's a terrible thing to base comparison on because Twilight is only a phase, and it's extremely mediocre, period.

twilight is being compared to Harry Potter because of the two books popularity. they have close to nothing in common, but twilight may become the first book to be more popular than the harry potter series................... we'll find out if this prediction is true when fans show their love for twilight when the movie premieres november 21st.

If you would read the Twilight series, you would see a BIG Dif, in books they are not similar at all. ( they are great books!) while one book series has wizards the other Has vampires thats a GIANT dif.  not the same at all.

They're being compared because the Harry Potter series was such a hit and sold millions of copies and so did the Twilight series. Harry Potter was made into a movie and now so is Twilight.

its getting compared by how much they SELL. Its pretty obvious. There comparing each other by not the kind of book but how greatly popular it is. I don't understand why people don't get it.

It has nothing to do with the characters or plot. It's just that their both really popular especially for teenagers. You grow attatched to both stories and love both easily.

well, I think its because they're both series and they both have (sorta) magical elements...and of course they are both Fantasies! So I think thats why!

But you are right...Twilight is Twilight, and Harry Potter is Harry Potter... to compare the two is like comparing Frodo Baggins and Harry Potter... or Gandlaf and Dumbledore...or Edward and Harry!

I think to compare them is to take away something unique, special and different about each! So no, In my opinion the series are NOT alike! But they are good in there OWN right!

well if u havent read twilight u should cuz they are the best books ever.....but i think its ridiculous that people compare twilight to harry potter. they are two completely different books....and all this comparing is causing a big fight between harry potter and twilight fans. i think the reason why they conpare the two books is that they are both big money makers and both fiction and they have movies,......but thats about it. im just glad that harry potter changed their release date so the movies wont be compared in the box office as much. but you really should read the twilight series......they are the best books ever!!!!! i personally think they are better than harry potter...and ive read both books...but twilight is better than harry potter

People compare them because they were both NUMBER 1 Best Selling Books.

They are both VERY good books, and that's why people compare them, they compare them on how good they both are.

They are both very adventurous, books, that put you into the story when you read.

I know i can't decide which book is better, but anyway, people compare them on which one is better. Not what they have in common.

Both are very successful and popular young adult book series about supernatural topics.  That is what they are compared to one another.

I think they're probably compared to one another because they both involve aspects of mythical creatures and there's a heroic figure in each of them. In my opinion, and by the looks of it, most other people's, I can see  huge differences between the two and wouldn't really associate them as books with a similar genre.

I have to say though, that I am in LOVE with Edward Cullen. Everyone things I'm a right weirdo for loving a fictional character but he is absolutely amazing and I wish people like him existed in real life lol ... strange as it may sound.

But yeah, in answer to your question, I think they are perceived as similar because of the kind of characters that appear in them but I don't see how they are for anything else really.

The only thing the books themselves have in common are werewolves. Remus Lupin and Jacob Black. They mention vampires in Harry Potter, but mostly in a passing. OH! and there's humans (or muggles..) in both books! =D

it is like why the jonas brothers are being compared to the beatles. The histaria and audiences it is bringing in gives it the similar feel.

i guess the only thing in comman are werewolves.

Ferer Greyback was a werewolf in Harry Potter and so was Remus Lupin and in twilight its that guy Jake or Jack or something.

I ask the same question. I can see that the twilight haters are saying that compared to harry potter, it is rubbish. This however is not true!!!!!! The twilight books are amazing and I personally think they are better than the harry potter books in some ways! They are nothing like each other! Everyone just needs to get over the fact that harry potter IS popular, but twilight is just as good, if not better!
