Why do people compare Kimbo to some of the world's top fighters?

Its really annoying. Chuck Lidell v Kimbo? Are you kidding? What a waste. They act like he's done "soo" much to prove himself. He had 2 professional fights, one of which was from an old worn out MMA fighter. And the rest are street fights. So my question is for the people who treat Kimbo like the next "god" of MMA, what has he done to prove he is even close to being good enough to top fighters.

I don't get it. Why is everyone so frightened of Kimbo? Yes, he is a brawler with little to no technical skill. His past is questionable. But since he has started MMA, he has done everything hes supposed to do. If he loses saturday night, will the haters be satisfied? Or will no one be happy until he leaves the sport altogether? It seems as if the whole world has a vendetta against this person, who is doing nothing but taking an opportunity that fell into his lap and making the best of it.

Kimbo got dropped 3 times in 10 minutes by a mediocre, slob.  A legitimate Heavyweight will kill him.

kimbo is a true brawler and grew up in a tough neighborhood.

rich franklin on the other hand was a math teacher living in the suburbs.

why doesnt anyone criticize franklin wen he was a highschool math teacher and kimbo comes out as a street fighter.

his strikes are so accurate, so fast, so powerful. he has an iron jaw and he would kill chuck lidell. chuck lidell is too old and doesnt train hard enough to be a champion again. his fight aginst wanderlei was so fixed... chuck lidell IS the ufc. if chuck lost taht fight he would have been out of the UFC causing the UFC to lose major money. I mean cmon. look at kimbos body and look at chucks. chuck has a ***** beer belly! jesus. kimbo has a ***** 8 pack and hes a heavy weight. not many heavy weights have 8 packs. his bicep is bigger than chuck lidells face.

Kimbo can and will be a champion. imo he wud kill randy couture no offense. i am a couture fans myself. but couture right now is too old and his style greco roman is so bad aginst kimbo. if he goes in for a clinch he'll just get rocked the *** out.

Kimbo has a tremendous following because of his backyard brawls on YouTube and let's face it... he's great at that!!

Kimbo is a brawler for sure; is he a top contender in the MMA world???  "Hardly" and "Not yet" are the answers there.

Could he be?  For sure; it's just a matter of timing.

Bas Rutten wouldn't train Kimbo if he didn't believe in his ability.  He's not ready for Ladell or Tito or even retired Couture, but he's up and coming.

So my suggestion?  Look past the hype and just watch the man fight and climb up the ladder.  Eventually he'll meet some REAL competition and we'll see what he's made of.

My bets say he's gonna be a contender, but probably never a champion.

I've never heard anyone compare him to any of the world's top fighters, but I have heard people comment on his tremendous popularity. He's not ranked by any reputable martial arts media outlet like sherdog or mmajunkie, I also think that he is not respected, maybe even despised, by true mma fans, as he is already the most popular mma fighter out there and he hasn't even proven himself yet. His only fans are people who know nothing of the sport and probably think he's some wrestler like booker t or something.

Money, that is why.

Whether Kimbo is compared to top fighter's is not really the issue here. It is done because of CBS claiming it will bring the best of MMA with EliteXC. And all they have is to ride out is someone like Kimbo.

What blows about all of this is that MMA was a sport where hype didn't apply. You went in fighting the best, to prove you are the best. The way they market Kimbo is much like how media eventually ruined boxing = pumped up fight cards, ridiculous match ups as to inflate a fight record. And throw lots of money to it.

Compare that with UFC, where Lesnar was also intro'd as the next monster of MMA. Only here, he had to debut against a former world champion, and a submission specialist.

It's all good for Kimbo and his crew; they are hitting pay day. For advertisers and media = same happy days. But the longer this goes on, the sooner people will stop enjoying MMA. It should always be about "proving grounds", no easy fights or staged cards... Before long, MMA will be another WWE circus... bbrrrr.....

Slice is the undisputed top MMA fighter without a doubt when it comes down to straight up having the biggest dirtiest bushiest beard. He's number one so take that hairless cheik kongo! yea yea! Too bad kimbo sucks or that big beard might mean something.

Kimbo is a disgrace to the sport!  As long as his piece of **** managers keeps hooking him up with no name fighters he'll never get better of be a champ!  Its not about hte money!  If it was about hte money he'd fight biger and better opponents!  winning big fights is how you get money!  Kimbo is a no body!  he's where he's at because he's a terrible fighter and he can't go anywhere else till he gets better!

I agree. Allot of people hype him like he is this great fighter. I will give the guy the credit that he can brawl. Now every single fight I have seen him in street and MMA, he stays on his feet, and all the guys in the street fights try to do the same thing. I can guarantee if he went into the ring with a very good ground tech he would be done for. He is a striker plain and simple, no question about that, but the 2 MMA fights he was in were also strikers, but they were old strikers, and both of them had 3 previous losses in a row. So for his MMA career, I really think his matches were sub par. I really don't care what people say, but is striking power is good, but he has no ground game, the minute he goes to the floor he will be done for, that is if he ever goes up against someone who is not a tomato can.

I'm reminded of the K1 fights between Sapp and Hoos.

The 1st one Hoos tried to go toe-to-toe and got KO'd, the 2d fight he stayed outside and destroyed Sapp's legs with kick after kick.

If Kimbo Slice does fight some well rounded MMA fighter, he will lose.

Most people don't follow MMA closely all they see is the hype and advertising they are trying to build him up to get a new fan base he does have decent boxing skills but your right when he fights a legit skilled fighter he is going down and down hard

Until somebody beats Kimbo, I'm gonna say that he is d**n good at what he does.  I'm not saying he is the best, because he has not fought anybody good yet.  But I do believe that he is strong as h**l and very very accurate.
