Question:

Why do people compost the hard way?

Why do people bother taking a long time collecting piles, expensive equipment, then gathering waste in a pile and waiting weeks for it to break down?

I just gather some organic trash and use a shovel to mix and grind it up where ever I have spare space in my garden. This way the trash breaks down within days instead of months, also no expensive bins or retainers needed. I also incorporate meat and oil left overs as long as it's mixed in quickly without a chance to rot. Pour that over with urine and water it down a bit. Never seems to be any problems for me.

  1. the more time you take to compost the better the compost, what you re doing is not composting but adding chipped/shredded material to your soil. This will add organic matter but will not have the complete body of nutrients of true compost. Compost has been allowed to both ferment and be broken down by the various micro-fauna found at the different stages of composting. The heat also makes a big difference as properly made compost will go through several heat cycles and get as hot as 130˚F after it is turned.
