  1. I don't even walk. I drive a cart right up to my ball while drinking a beer how great is that?

  2. Its more of a game but I'd like to know how you define "sport".

  3. Because its competitive.................NASCAR is less of a sport than golf is.

  4. It is the greatest game in the world.  It is the only game that you can call a penalty on yourself (if you are honest) and every single shot matters.  You have one bad shot and it will affect your score more than any other sport.  You can get away with mistakes in other sports.

An average round of golf you walk 4.5 miles and you use your legs, arms, obliques, abs, shoulders, and back to swing the club properly.  That is why Tiger Woods is in as good of shape as he is.  You must be in top physical condition if you want to complete at a high level.

You could wipe out a lot of sports depending on your criteria that are equally as "non-strenuous".

  5. omg this is such a cliche.  sport is an athletic competition.  is it a competition?..... yes.  Is it athletic?........ yes.

ok so why do people drink beer while doing something athletic?  you can drink beer while playing basketball if you want that doesn't mean it isn't a sport.

cheerleading is also an athletic competition.  billiards is not really athletic.  bowling is somewhat athletic..... i would say bowling is borderline.

  6. Golf is a sport. By many things one you have to be a "sport" to play golf. And two it is not just hitting a little white ball around for 18 holes. Personally the 19th hole is my favorite. But anyways, it is a sport that requires a lot of talent and dedication. I have been playing golf for 28 years. I love the game. You can play by yourself ( which requires honesty) or with others. I feel that it is a sport that builds character. BUT IT IS A SPORT - and more than fishing - I can do that and I play golf ( scoring for 18 holes 88-90) see if a fisherman can do that......

  7. Why is fishing/hunting a sport.  Golfing is alot more of a sport than throwing a line in a lake.

  8. From Dictionary.com

    sport

    –noun

    1. an athletic activity requiring skill or physical prowess and often of a competitive nature, as racing, baseball, tennis, GOLF, bowling, wrestling, boxing, hunting, fishing, etc.

Golf requires a lot of skill.  Would you like to try golf?  Have you ever played it before?  I would love to see Tiger Wood's reaction to you saying that golf i not a sport.

  9. It is a sport because you play with a ball. Anytime you play with a ball it is considered a sport and I was going to ask you to go play golf but you can forget it now!

  10. Well the physical ability is actually very controlled, and the mental part is huge.

Most games and sports where the object is  putting an object into a small hole, or point, etc. is mental and eye-hand control.

Darts, pool, golf you can't be shaking or stressed. Lately the MENTAL ability of people is getting TV time.

Mental ability is being seen more on TV as even poker is huge mentally so they say. Pool and bowling are quiet and indoors and available in every town (cheaper than arenas, huge team budgets) easier for everyone to be good at.

A sport is cultural and point of view. Spelling Bees are getting TV coverage on ESPN because of the mental stress (I hope) and the competition factor.

Humans love competition - we even had robots fighting, any competition a human can find is a sport - and will be on TV.

Remember the wide world of sports on ABC in 70's. American think weird - while rest of world just sees normal sports from their country.

  11. You ever try walking around in those plaid polyester pants? If you had, you might just reconsider that question...

  12. Most people don't realize that the average golf course is anywhere between 6500 and 7000 yards which come out to around 4 miles not taking into account the distance from green to tee.   This coupled with carrying a 10-15 lb. golf bag comes out to quite a calorie burner.  Additionally, for the older crowd, golf is a great way to improve or maintain flexibility which is very important to staying active.  Aside from the exercise portion, golf is a sport because it requires mental and physical stamina as well strength.  I dont know if you've ever noticed Tiger's guns, but the guy is jacked.  These days physical fitness is almost mandatory for any player looking to play competitive golf.  When I played in high school I spent two hours a day in the gym working on strength and flexibility and in college golf the fitness regimines are extremely physical and incorporate all parts of the body.

  13. I know. It's like calling bowling a sport. Or billiards.

I think it's just an excuse for fat white folks to say they're doing something athletic.

  14. Check your dictionary. Golf is by definition a sport. It's not up for "consideration." It just is what it is.

  15. One time... when I was golfing... I put my hands on another  persons balls... they don't like that!

    Picky...picky...

  16. I HATE PEOPLE THAT SAY THAT GOLF IS NOT A SPORT.

  17. Its like calling cheerleading a sport.

  18. Golf's more of a sport than poker or pool.
