Question:

Why do people continue to have children?

The world is facing some of the greatest the economic and global instabilities ever. Couples have less individual independence, less time, less money, and more worries after having a child or children. Parents vacation at Disney instead of the Islands. Parents go to parent teacher conferences instead of watching the game. Your entire life is turned on end! Yet most of couples still chose to reproduce. Why is that?

Not saying it is a bad thing, I have children myself. I am just asking what is it within (or without) of us that drives us to have children.

Thanks!

  1. Humans do naturally have a desire to reproduce.  It's the circle of life.  But besides that, a lot of people just like kids, and feel that having them would be a fulfillment.  I want to have kids someday.

  2. they want to share life with them...and some dont plan them either..

  3. Interesting spin on parenting, couples etc.... so I have to answer you.

In my opinion, I think it is biologically driven to reproduce for the survival of the species, plain and simple.

Perhaps in some cases it gives some people's lives meaning when they search for answers to questions like, what are we here for?  This type of question is driven from biological influences to find meaning in this existence to which some find the answer to be in the form of reproducing.   Then there is the simple reason of loving someone and wanting to have children together.

Life as a parent is what one makes of it.  And couples may have less and less these days but also have equally more to offer then ever before.  The things you mention are choices that are not necessarily universal, though they seem to ring true as a pattern of our current hurried lifestyles.  It's up the individual to keep themselves on track and value the right things, not succumb to popular culture but listen to what your own mind tells you is right.

I can honestly say that having gone to Disneyland with the family, that it's not all it's cracked up to be, instead I would take a simple weekend camping over it anyday.  And many have to experience things for themselves to understand what is valuable, not all will agree, and some may just be able to figure it out without the experience, but that's less likely to happen.  In the end to each his own not all of us can be of the same mind set or agree on values.  Theme parks thrive so that speaks volumes doesn't it?

  4. Human nature and personal choice

  5. its a biological imperitive-that is,a behaviour so hard-wired into the human race(as its essential for survival)that nothing can stop it.like desire for food, sleep and s*x,this is a biological drive few can resist.certain behaviours are innate, this is one of them.plus, its fun.u get to play barbies or hot wheels all over again, and no one thinks ur weird, because ur playing with ur kids....

  6. thats what were for, reproducing. helping to carry on our families names, and keeping the human race going. having kids and going through all of that, is just part of life. honestly, i feel sorry for the people that dont get to or want to experience it. it makes us who were are.
