  1. I have never been able to figure that out either.  Here's why -  Anybody who wants to steal my car can already steal it, and my licence plate and VIN number are in plain view, every single day, to everybody.

In my view, you'd have to be an idiot to think you shouldn't show your license plate on the internet, when it's required by law to be obvious to everybody all day every day.

None of these answers makes one bit of sense.  Aren't you guys terrified just driving around with license plates?  If not, why not?

  2. so People Cant  See The number Plate and nick it

  3. because someone can find out who they are, where they work in live and stuff like that

  4. So you can't call DMV and find out where they live.

  5. The reason why D.O.T. (department of transportation) started automobile tags was so they know property tax is paid, ownership is legal, non commercial or commercial use is valid, and GVWR is under limit. Now being said a persons Identity, vehicle, address, and privacy is at stake with all the low lifes that don't want to work for there money!

  6. Because you can run the tag... and find out personal information about the seller.

  7. Because it's someone elses in better condition.

  8. so people cant track them and nick the car

  9. I agree. The DMV does'nt hand out this information to the public.  If they want to know where you live or steal the car, they'll call you and arrange a test drive.  Hiding the plate does nothing.  My plate number is KGB 269.  Go nuts.

  10. i guess so you can't track them down and steal the car or worse.  you can get a lot of info about a person just from their license plate.

  11. Data protection.

  12. People can look up your info through you plates/numbers its just for security.

Can find where you are, cant steal it, some weirdo cant stalk you etc...

  13. in the UK you cant easily find info about a person from their number plates alone... to do so requires access to police data bases etc.

It's done over here to prevent someone (a naughty criminal) from finding a matching colour and model car to their own dodgy vehicle copying the plates - everytime a camera catches them you get the bill!!!

  14. For a number of reasons:

    1. So you don't read the number

    2. As stated by others so that nobody comes round and steals the car.

    3. So that someone doesn't 'clone' the plates.

    4. It may be a 'cherished' reg and they don't want you to know the details as they will probably be keeping the number when the car is sold.

  15. so you cant go and look up their info then go steal their car..........

  16. so it doesnt get cloned!

  17. As a lady, I would cover it up because I would be afraid a crook would use it to find me and harass me. I know its not likely, but why take a chance.

  18. safety

  19. so no one can run the plates and see where they live.
