I haven't heard of anyone bobbing a cats tail. Manx are born with a stumpy tail and have developed through selective breeding. Same for the japanese bob tail.

They do bob dogs tails and ears? I am sure this had to do more with hunting conventions than actual fashion. The Poodle for example was,originally, a hunting dog.

I have never heard of it.  Manx cats from the Isle of Man in the Irish sea off Wales, UK, have only a one inch tail naturally.  Maybe it was one of those you have seen.
