Why do people deny global climate change???

The scientific facts gathered by scientists conclude that the Earth is getting warmer. Why do people with no background knowledge with climate change disagree with experts in the field?? I'm not an Al Gore fan, but he is right. People dont believe it because its an inconvenience. Its time to look at the facts, realize whats going on and properly prepare for the future.

The human brain has a "penchant for making dumb choices.

They don't deny climate change. they deny that man is causing it. And we're not. Scientists in Australia have recently said that the earth has been COOLING for the past eight years! And the U.N. agrees with them, too. But they'd never tell you that on the mainstream media.

Some are honestly mistaken.  Others see conspiracies behind everything.

But many are conservatives who take politics to great lengths.  If liberals, environmentalists, or worst, Al Gore say something, it must be wrong.  No matter HOW many scientists say it.

They might want to listen to these sources, with indisputable conservative credentials:

"Former Republican House Speaker Newt Gingrich challenged fellow conservatives to stop resisting scientific evidence of global warming"

"National Review (the most prestigious conservative magazine) published a cover story calling on conservatives to shake off denial and get into the climate policy debate"

Probably for the same reason people denied Christ and needed to be forced to convert, whether they believed in him or not.  

Take a look at history during the Spanish Inquisition, just for an obvious example.  There were just as many legitimate "scientists" who declared the heritic deniers had to accept the obvious or suffer torture.  

It's not unlike the Envirofundamentalists today who want to force everyone to accept their view of science or be labeled as a denier.  

If you dare to check the credentials and investment portfolios of those who the Envirofundamentalist movement cites as their "consensus of expert scientists", you'll quickly discover they have long histories of anti-capitalism and financially vested interests for their "science" to be believed.

Meanwhile there are many credible, TRUE scientists, who are following BASIC scientific principles:  in order to declare a theory true, it must be backed by repeatable, reproducable, and predictable results.

While climate IS changing, it is part of the wonderful and exciting aspect of the natural world, and mankind -- despite his attempt to feel as powerful as "God" -- is really irrelevant to the world, and actually has very little influence on climate (miniscule).

THE SUN affects climate the most, followed by the magnetic fields surrounding the earth, and then the #1 largest population life form on earth... oceanic bacteria... which the Oceanic Genome project was "stunned" to discover are the primary life forms that regulate our atmosphere (as they have been doing for HUNDREDS OF MILLIONS OF YEARS).

Al Gore is just a scam artist who needs to feel important.  He's a modern day P.T. Barnum, showing "proof" of mermaids, werewolves, and whatsits.

And clearly, you've bought a ticket to his sideshow.

I don’t recall many people here denying climate change. It has been changing since time began and they’ll be glad to tell you: it gets hot, then cold, then hot again, then cold (again!) ... you get the idea.

But many qualified scientists will argue the reason(s) why it changes.

There has been global warming up till about 1998. Since then, we have been maintaining, or decreasing in global temp. The debate is over the cause. No scientific study yet has suggested man made causes, and yet, many would like to impose draconian CO2 caps and other taxes to control the human population. The debate is not about the environment, it is purely political.

because theyre smart enough to not get convinced by unproven claims, smart enough to not get scared into believing something we dont understand.  There isnt anything inconvienent about changing lifestyles, and there really isnt for anyone else.  Some people, however, RELY on the energy for their income.

Secondly, most people are incapable of doing anything about it.  Honestly, its up the richest of the rich to develop new technologies for society to use.  If you really think planting a tree in your backyard, or switching to CFL's is "doing your part", you should probably wake up and realize you are one of 6.7 billion people on earth, one of 2 billion in the developed world, and your actions alone wont do anything.

The "problem" is in america, the democrats want socialism.  No one wants to get rich because of this, there is no motivation for invention in a socialist government.  There wont be any technological breakthroughs unless people can get rich from it.  Unfortunately, no one really invent anything unless they have the money to do it.  Another problem is the liberal media has convinced americas youth that big corporations are bad and evil.  They are trying to mold this country into a socialist government, which as we observe, pretty much all socialist governments in the past decided it didnt work so well, and moved on.  A socialist government will only tax us for the gas we use, instead of encourage the big corporations, the only people with enough money for some R and D, to produce the technological advances we need.

People who deny global warming DONT support pollution and environmental destruction, they just realize it isnt on us, there is nothing the average joe can do, so why sacrifice quality of life/production for "peace of mind"?  Its up to the rich to come out with the technological breathroughs, not me.

READ WHAT I HAVE WRITTEN! global warming is not occurring. This stuff you hear about CO2 emissions and stuff is all c**p and is stuff to get people to get more money. The truth is that the fact is warming but not because of global warming, partly because we are recovering from a mini ice age that occurred long ago. Co2 emissions dont do really anything because co2 is one of the smallest greenhouse gases and really doesnt warm our atmosphere. The big greenhouse gas is water vapor which makes up more that 20 percent of the atmosphere. The only thing i can think of that may cause global warming is hydrogen cars if they are mass produced and used. They can cause it because they will give off water vapor which can increase our temperatures. For right now though, there is no global warming at all. No scientist even agrees with the c**p and that president that made a movie includes small facts but is mostly talking garbage. So keep on using your gas car and dont worry about any global warming. dont listen to the people above me iknow the facts.

Because accepting reality means taking personal responsibility for our environmental impact and changing our behavior.

Some people are very poor at taking responsibility and afraid of change, so instead they go into denial.  They'd rather sell our future down the river than take some simple steps to ensure that we continue to prosper.

The lengths they go to in order to maintain their denial are almost laughable.  They'll deny that there is a scientific consensus on the issue, even though there clearly is.

Deniers would take the word of Rush Limbaugh (drug-addicted college dropout) over that of the most brilliant climate scientist in the world as long as Rush was telling them that they're not to blame.

The controversy isn't so much about the earth warming, but that man is the cause of it. I, for one, don't believe man has as much to do with it as the cycle of the earth. Scientists really don't know what the climate was all over the world in the history of the earth. Not too long ago, scientists warn us all that we are going to have another ice age. THAT didn't happen and I highly doubt those scientists now.

Oh, and Al Gore is a TOTAL hypocrite. He uses more carbon energy flying around the world and lighting his mansion than my whole neighborhood. Don't believe this egomaniac.

Unless you are a real scientist, you are guilty of everything you accused the skeptics of.  Ask yourself this.  If Algore really thinks global warming is at a tipping point, then why does he continue to fly in private jets, drive SUV's, and live in a house fit for a king?  Wouldn't he get rid of those things to avert the pending doom?

I don't deny it, it's been happening for millions of years, and it will continue no matter what we do.  The current warming trend is over 10,000 years old.  That is the truth.  Al Gore is a failed politician, that is also the truth.

Not very many rational people could deny global climate change since the global climate has been changing since the earth was formed.

The earth has cooled and warmed many times in it's history.

What date in the earth's history had the optimum temperature, can any global warming theory supporters answer that ?

Was it perhaps when life was much more prolific on this planet when it was warmer than it currently is, and what caused that warming ?

Or perhaps it was during the last ice age when life was very brutal on our planet.

But I guess it must be whatever temperature it was at the end of the mini ice age and before we made a lot of our technological advances that make life so enjoyable now.

Go ahead and admit that you just can't stand progress, especially progress that keeps the good old U.S.A. ahead of the rest of the world

Our climate changes are cyclical in nature, having nothing to do with man - that's been proven to exist over the 1000's of years that science will extrapolate their figures. We warm up and we cool down -

Every 20 years or so there's a magazine headline claiming we're entering an ice age - do you believe those too?

Read the research on global warming by the group that has no agenda to either push or dispell it - and then make your decision - don't base it on a movie that has already been proven to full of misinformation, exaggerations, and plain lies by good old Al Gore. Notice he's not concerned enough about the environment to stop flying around in his private jets, get rid of his fleet of SUVs or cut the utilities to the many mansions he has - one of which uses more power than a small town....

Barbra Streisand encourages everyone to cut energy usage, but does she? No - she air conditions a warehouse of her hollywood memorabilia of over 20,000 sq ft., she flies to her concerts, but has a 6 bus entrourage follow her - to provide her with her own private restroom, for one thing. Babs doesn't do without a/c in her own house too - she really gripes when it gets warm in there... Plus, her mansion is no little 2000 sq ft home either -

The US has far more environmental laws on the books than does China or India or any of the other 3rd world countries. We pollute far less than they do - so why then are supposed to pay for all of this? Because we have the money - don't expect the liberals to ask those other countries to cough up funding for the clean-up - this is another ploy of theirs to weaken us against the other countries of the world.

They want money for combatting global warming, but have you or anyone else heard just what they actually plan to do with all of that money beside buy carbon offsets - which is nothing but a farce....

I've heard one scientist actually want to put a band around the equator to shade the earth - that really sounds intelligent doesn't it?
