You should read "Flagging Patriotism: Crises of Narcissism and Anti-Americanism" by Robert Stam and Ella Shohat. It provides an in-depth look at patriotism and anti-Americanism. Some people hate America because they define themselves by what they think America is not. Others simply hate the American government's policies. While yet others hate America for more pedestrian reasons.

Perception is the problem, most people in the U.S. perceive the U.S. as always doing good. People in other countries don't see things the same way. During the cold war we backed ruthless dictators, pushed are products into other countries while refusing entry of their products into our markets. So today with the world economy these countries don't need our help. I have traveled to Europe and South America, the quality of life for the average citizen is about the same. In South America though the poor are very poor. The government doesn't support them like in the U.S. and western europeon countries.

Americans say it's jealousy but it has nothing to do with that. Maybe for some few people but for the majority it ain't that. We do not have any problems with americans in general. We have a huge problem with your foreign policies and your government. There always been some anti-americanism gong on before though it wasn't like nowadays. Since Bush became president the anti-americanism all over the world went over the top.
