Question:

Why do people drink sports drink? nothing is better than water because it is natural and has supported life.?

i think it is bad because what is the point of drinking when it is mostly sugar. I hate all the sports drink commericails that show famous athlets to drink it. they only drink it because THEY ARE PAID TO

  1. Sports drinks replace lost sodium and potassium as well as provide carbohydrates to help an athlete recover.

    Water is good, but too much during a workout is bad for you.

    EDIT: I only drink them occasionally, and no more than one a day. Military PT is rough, and the carbs and electrolytes help me recover faster so I can go to work and stay awake.


  2. though its artificially added to sports drinks, water does not carry electrolytes, which is useful for replenishing hydration. and yes, while famous athletes are paid for those commercials, they do actually drink sports drinks not only for commercialization, but also because they work.

    the sports drink formulas they give athletes is much different from the ones they sell to the public.

  3. After a bad work out,we need not only water ,but sugar and carbs.That s why sports drink were introduced.

  4. I drink them because I run half-marathons and marathons,and I get very dizzy when I am low on sugar or salt (the home made version with salt and juice tastes gross). I tried eating something  

    small and sugary after or during a run, but it's much easier to just drink some gatorade.

    I completely agree that most people who drink them are couch potatoes who don't need them and just get fat by drinking them.

  5. Besides quenching thirst, these sports drinks contain lot of sugar which gives instant energy for the sportsmen. They burn energy a lot compared to us who are just sitting and watching. Yes, they can drink water too, but water does not boost their energy. people who sit at home or dont engage in

    physical activities, should NOT DRINK sports drinks. they just add to their weight . Plain water is more healthy for them.

  6. Actually, the sports drinks replace electrolytes and salts that water doesn't. You lose minerals when you sweat and these drinks do help you. I worked construction for several years in Las Vegas. During the summer, when it's hot I noticed the difference. Heat cramps were greatly reduced by drinking the sports drinks and I didn't have to take salt tablets to retain water.

    They were beneficial to me.
