Why do people driving in the fast lane always drive slow?

This drives me nuts.  I wonder if people aren't taught in Drivers education classes what the middle lane is for.  And the other thing is they go slow until there is a passing lane and then they speed up.  Don't get me started!

Because in my state, you don't even have to have a green card or car insurance to legally drive a car.

They should change that, and also change the law to require all people who want to get a driver's license to attend and complete with an A+ a Drivers Ed course.

I think they have a couple of reasons, which I disagree with.

First they think they own the road and can drive any speed in any lane. The other is even worse, they think they can control others from going faster and in a way think they are acting as speed police.

That is something that I have always wondered myself.

Except in my state, usually the person in the fast lane is usually driving UNDER the speed limit. That just makes me want to scream! I do not expect everyone to be going 100 mph, but if you are going to clog the fast lane up, at least be going the actual speed limit!!

I like this question!  (gave you a star!)  First, nothing is "always" or "never".  If you really think other people in the fast lane "always" drive slow, you must drive incredibly fast yourself.  ???  But I know what you mean.  It seems like whenever I am in a hurry, there is someone in the fast lane driving below the speed limit or right at the speed limit.  My father says it is because they are going to turn left in 10 miles, and they are just getting ready to make their turn.  =)    Sometimes Dad's pretty clever!  

*** Incidentally, my Dad used to drive like a maniac.  Now that he is in his 60's, he drives kind of slow himself...

I hate those people.  Some people will move when they see me barreling down on them, but many are off in lala land.

"Tell me about it"!    I live in Florida; land of the retiree, baseball cap wearing slow driver with no place important to go first thing in the morning, when everyone else is in a hurry. I guess they think the right lane is for turns?

Usually people lumbering along in the fast lane are just not paying attention to what they are doing, or they are just rude (the world revolves around me).
