Why do people enjoy visiting with other people at eachothers homes or elsewhere?

I do not like to be around people, sitting in their homes, drinking or eating from their tables...

I feel very uncomfortable and I don't enjoy it. My live-in boyfriend likes to visit people and does not want to live such a solitary life. What do I do? Why do people enjoy this? Is there some way I can enjoy these things?
