Why do people feel the need to be team-biased?

Alright, I'm a Redskins fan...been one for as far back as I can remember. But I'm not delusional or anything. If somebody asks who the best quarterback in the NFL is right now...I don't answer "Jason Campbell". I know there's a such thing as team pride...but why can't people just take the biasedness out of their answers and just be honest when asked a question like that?

  1. Good Question, My Favorite QB is Rated amongst the Top 3 of The NFL, And He Earned It through His competitive Nature and Team Mates that Want to Win as Much as He does, that What Makes My Favorite Team So Good, I'm not Biased, They Just Are Good, PERIOD.

I'm Not Biased, They know they can Win, not just because people expect them to, or because their fans, They Want to win for because the pride they have and for the love of the game.

    Biased......Maybe, but I don't need to be.

  2. I have mentioned this in my answers a lot of times people confused team rivalry with lies. Even though they know the right answer they will not be truthful. I am like you give credit where it is due has nothing to do with liking or disliking something or someone. There are a few here on Yahoo that will admit to something and add I don't like them and it kills me to say but so and so.  And I have a lot of respect for them I for one will do it in a heart beat. With the fans that won't admit the truth about a player really have no pride they are just mean spirited and foolish and I have learned to ignore them.

  3. It all goes back to our days as cave men and the concept of Amity and Enmity. We were members of tribe and could count on the other members of that tribe for support, food and protection. (Amity) Tribes were like clans or extended families. Strangers and Tribes we were not familiar with were viewed with distrust as we would often find ourselves coveting the same resources. (Enmity) Today we find ourselves in a society that is less and less tribe based and we can find comfort in our sports teams as surrogate tribes. Symbolic Clans, if you will. And as fans we are allowed to participate in the rituals and share in the glories as well as the troubles. It's all very comforting on a primal level. We primally understand, even desire conflict, and football fandom is a socially acceptable, even healthy way to experience conflict without invading some defenseless Middle Eastern Oil Country.

  4. They are just prideful of their team. It's sort of like family to some people, including myself. Would you stick up for your sister or brother even if you knew they were wrong? I would.

  5. Because people are stupid and ignorant. End of story

  6. I am biased towards MY, GIANTS, of course but, I am a football fan and, if I see a great team or, individual player, I will acknowledge them, as such.
