Why do people feel the need to queue up for a..........?

petrol pump that is on the same side as the filler cap on their car, and cause a huge queue to spill out onto the road?

Don't they believe that the 9 foot long hose will reach around their 5 foot wide car?!

not all petrol pumps have hoses that will stretch over to the other side, as i found out when i got my first car, so people wait in the queue to have the pump at the correct side to save having to go try the other pump with the possibility of it not reaching then having to drive out the garage and back into the queue that will know have more cars waiting in it than when you first entered the garage

Why do people keep saying that the hose will go over the car? I don't know many patrol stations where they will, unless you park on the island. So that is why I queue to get on the correct side.

It's the same as when an escalator (moving stair) stops working, everyone uses the staircase. Despite it being safe to walk down the escalator.

Three reasons, firstly they don't know that it can be done and secondly its the embarrasment factor. Many people just have a fear of pulling up at the pump and being laughed at and standing out if the hose won't reach. Thirdly, people just can't drive. I'm a driving instructor and it's scary how many people can't perform even the simplest bit of positioning. They love saying how great they are cos they can fly around everywhere at double the speed limit and get anywhere quickly but when it comes down to a real but of skill they fall far short.

Under EU legislation it's illegal to fill up your car from the opposite side.

Is that whats its called?  A queue?  Like a printer queue at the University Computer lab?  Most people dont pay SIMPLE enough attention to detail to see which side the gas filler is on their SUV that they fuel up once every few days because they're cheap and drive a gas hog.  They're usually on the phone, drinking their Starbucks Coffee, smoking their cigarettes and talking to the passenger to really pay attention to much more or to the cars they cut off because the vehicle has large blind spots.

I do that and I will continue to because I've had the scratches on the body work to prove that even a 9ft hose does not reach my filler properly.

What annoys me more is the morons who pull up on the first pump on a multi-pump island instead of moving forward.
