so unlikely ? Religion changed a lot in Europe, first we had the roman gods and whatever the northern tribes believed in, then christianity took over, which split in a mirade of branches, why is the possibility that Islam will grow stronger and finally influence politics in Europe so laughable, especially since in this day and age more and more are growing tired with christianity ?

  1. Indeed, it's not unlikely although the evidence suggests that religiosity is on the rise.

You are right to point out that a great deal of the fall off in christianity will be mopped up by Islam. Large sections of the population simply find it impossible to believe in nothing. Whether Europe will ever be able to fully psychologically accept Islam is debatable, but it is definitely being normalised, even after Western Europe struggled for about four centuries to replace religion as the dominant mode of thought.

Islam has no business asserting itself as a basis for politics or law, certainly not in Western democracies. However, if a large section of the population is muslim, a democracy has to bend to the will of the voters. People should remember that when they go off on one of their tolerance fetishes.

  2. I don't care and have no clue. I am a theist, but I never believed in any religion of revelation. They are belief systems used by the powerful to control those below them.

  3. The fact is that people are not growing "tired" of Christianity.  The facts are that the European birth rate has decreased dramactically.  In turn, immigrants have moved to these countries to take up some jobs that cannot be filled by Europeans.  Most of the immigrants come from the Middle East and Africa where the predominant religion is Muslim.  Add to the equation that the Muslims are having more children, and you will have a growing non-Judeo/Christian population.

  4. they're not only growing tired of christianity, but with the whole concept of religion regardless of the flavor.

  5. Simple.  Because it's tolerated.  Nobody has to look outside their borders for, um, problems...the enemy lies within.  And yes, they are the enemy.  But as long as the countries keep letting them in (Canada is a good case in point...our politicians bend over regularly for these people who HATE...and this is no joke...they HATE non-Islamic people) then there's not much we can do but lay back and enjoy the ride.  As far as I'm concerned, I'm ready to leave this country because of this issue...Sharia law actually being considered in the western world?  It's a joke that people are leaving their countries to come to more civilized places, only to bring their issues with them.  Whatever.  I know the French have a lot to say about this issue.  I see a day in the very near future when we're all walking around in burkhas, and it's nobody's fault but our own for our over-exaggerated sense of "tolerance."

  6. Because the current growing trend is atheism. Especially in western Europe - i.e. Dawkins, Russell. It would take a lot to turn this trend around. The other religious changes happened when religion (any religion) was generally accepted. Not to mention, when countries were generally a theocracy, or at least church and state heavily intertwined. The situation today is not the same.

  7. In Islam men are allowed to have four or five wives.  When each wife gives birth to five children, then that makes 25 more Muslims in the world.  These 25 Muslims will also in the future bear 125 more Muslims. Soon I think Germany, like Sweden and England, will be Muslim country.  They have already built the biggest moschee here in Duisburg.

  8. Christians aren't converting to Islam.  There are just more immigrants.  These people want to live in democracies and are attracted to countries like England and Sweden for the freedom they promise.

Then they want to take a step backwards and bring their Draconian 3000 year old legal system with them?????

    It boggles the mind.
