  1. Um, well I live in south Texas (Houston) & while we get many hurricanes here, there has been a tremendous drought that has been going on since about May so I think many of us are relieved to have rain. However, hurricanes also pose a problem & many people in the Valley/Corpus area have evacuated to Mexico & different parts opposite of south TX so that is why it's a problem. Hope this answered your question.

  2. Freak out??  I'm waiting for the one that comes and washes the building away where I work!!!!!

Of course, being a secretary in h**l, they made sure to put our building just far enough inland for hurricanes to be a tease.

  3. There is no such thing as a weak hurricane. It is hitting a sparsely populated area, and it is not as strong as it could be. There will probably be a lot of flooding and some wind damage, but overall, it won't be that bad.

I would be far more concerned about the rest of the season. It's the middle of July and we're already on the "D"-Storm! It really makes me wonder if we're in for a really wild season again.

  4. Yes God, we know you can do better. But we, humans, just need something to talk about when the news for the week is slow.

  5. Drama queens.

  6. I live in Florida and can say that people dont really freak out but they panic some to prepare for damage.  Even a Cat 1 hurricane can cause some major damage and flooding, not to mention power outages that can last for weeks.  That's the part that sucks.  I would also like to mention that most people who die in hurricanes are the ones who don't evacuate or the ones who go out during or right after when it's not safe outside.  A Cat 2 is pretty serious though, it will cause alot of damage, it's nothing to take lightly.

I personally get excited about the storms because I love storms.  I am always prepared to be without power and water for at least 2 weeks but not everyone does this.  I say bring it on and let the party begin (as do most people I know here)...but then again, it really does hurt out tax payers dollars when the damage occurs and that hurts our economy more.

  7. With all the bad weather that has been happening recently, I guess they are expecting the worst.

  8. Why don't you stand out there in 100 mph SUSTAINED winds, heavy rains, thunderstorms and possible tornadoes and tell me how your day goes with a Cat 2 storm.

UPDATE - To Ua: the peak of hurricane season doesn't occur until late August-early September. The fact that we're "already" on the letter "D" doesn't mean nothing. That means there's 22 more "letters", and they could possibly be destructive hurricanes.
