Why do people get addicted to certain things?

Such as being addicted to Yahoo Answers, silly things like that.

Maybe people like you should be gratefull to others for giving up their time trying to help others, there are far worse things to be addicted too.

addicting is part of a personality trait. it does not have to involve drugs, it is the pleasure sensor in the brain that gets hooked on the feelings produced when the stimuli is presented.

I don't consider those addictions as much as obsessions. It's not like your going to have withdrawals if you stop going on Answers, playing video games, or hobbies like that.

Well, if you enjoy something, you wish to everyday don't you?  Some things such as needles can become addictive because your body likes it.  For example, I was once injected four times for some testing, etc in a period of two months. On the following month, my body was uneasy and wanted needle quite badly.

Because they have an addictive personality and certain weaknesses that are not controllable by using willpower...

Yeah there is a difference between addiction and obsession.  Addiction has a trigger of some sort.  Like when someone is addicted to drugs, alcohol or cigs there are actually receptors in the brain that get changed or triggered once they have been introduced to these substances.  So now you just created a "hungar" that will need to be physically fed.

Then people get addicted to sweets or foods because again, there are things in your body that get "awakened" by sugars, carbs, etc. that will need to be fed or else you get a physical withdrawl.

Sexual adictions happen because again, people trigger a hormone that can only be fed by s*x.

Now being obsessed with things like the internet, a person, or Yahoo Answers can be over come easier because there isn't a physical "thing" that's been triggered.  Obsessions are controled by motivation or external reasons.  For me, I am up over 900 points on yahoo answers because I am so dayum bored at work that if I am not on here I will be counting dots on a wall.  I am waiting on our project to start so I have nothing work-related to do.  I discovered answers and now here I am.  But I CAN live without it.  Nothing really triggers my desire to be on answers but boredom.
