Why do people get angry at cashiers when they have to prepay for gas? You know how much you want to get and you have to come inside anyways. If you plan on paying with a credit card why not use it at the pump?

  1. Where I go you can pay at the pump unless its at night.  And then I would figure its for the customers protection I mean if you pull your credit card out after dark and put it in the pump you have more of a risk of being jumped or robbed for your credit card then going inside and paying and then coming out.  Also you used to be able to pump first then go in and pay with cash well since so many people filled up and left the gas station without paying they discontinued it so they won't be losing 20 gallons or more of gas on a daily basis to some cheap skate who will get caught by the police eventually.  If you don't like prepaying then go and fuel up during they day so you can pay at the pump and if you still can't then start using a different gas station.  Good Luck

  3. I only experienced paying for gas after the fact a few times in my life while on vacation.  I don't see how people ANYWHERE in this country can expect  a station to be so trustful.

People really get angry? Well they better get used to it. People always feel insulted when they feel they aren't trusted anymore. They have to with the times. You can't have a station that says "Oh there's Sally, she can pay later" and then see a stranger and call him in to pay first. Pay with a credit card at the pump (and get extra points) or give $50 and come back for the change (if any!)

I'm from New York and it never bothered me.

If anyone owned a station, with so many strangers coming and going and the high price of gas I think most if not all would switch to the pre-pay practice by now.

  4. When you fill up you don't know exactly how much it will take then you have to go inside twice. Once to pay & then to get your change. I try not to get mad.

  5. they don't understand the WHY of it.

why am i paying for something i haven't gotten yet?

once the customer understands the WHY, they are usually satisfied.

And the WHY needs to be stated so that it's in their best interest.  After all, they don't care about nothing else.

So, I would say to that irate prepaying customer:

I'm sorry to inconvience you, but we have implemented this policy as a way of keeping our gas prices down, due to the increase in gas theft.

Or if it's a security issue:

blah blah blah, so we can keep our employees safe.
