Question:

Why do people get angry when you stand up for yourself?

I'm sixteen and I stand up for what I believe in, I have an opinion and I want my voice to be heard so why is it when I stand up for myself, I am punished in some or the worst ways?

I used to work in a clothes store where someone was tagging items through the clothes and not the seam, I was accused and so I told my manager that I hadn't done any tagging for a long time, which was completely true and my co worker also told my manager that it wasn't me. Well I stood up for myself and my manager called me a liar and fired me.

I always manage to get into fights with older people around me as they seem to feel they have a superior aspect over me, when all I want is my opinion to be heard.

Does anyone else have similar stories or is it just me?

Also, I may sound as if I was aggravated when saying I stood up for myself to my manager, this is not the case. In fact it was him and the assistant manager who began pointing fingers and raising voices, not me.

  1. It's good that you stand up for yourself. Really. But when you do, you need not be confrontational or antagonistic. Perhaps you were fired not so much for tagging, which you weren't even guilty of, but for being unnecessarily confrontational. Just a thought.

  2. Becuz some Ppl r called bullies and they survive on fear...so when you stand up 4 yrself esp to adults there angry dat yr acting indr way that fort u ***** react to.

  3. The reason changes from person to person - some people get angry simple because you're willing to look them in the eye and openly defy them.

To those individuals, that would mark you as an enemy, which is sad because ultimately it points out the fact that they have an inferiority complex.

Anyway, it may well be the case that people having been saying nasty things about you behind your back - this is the opposite variant on the antagonistic behaviour you have illustrated.

That which belongs to those whom believe themselves to be superior, and as such will never, ever, look you dead on in the eye unless they are absolutely certain you are going to back down.
