Probably because pale people (like myself) are constantly being told that pale is ill looking and we need some colour to look healthy.

It's not a self-hate thing like many people say.

It's just people feeling better with some brightened in their skin.

Personally i'm fine with my pale skin.

I just got back from holiday so i have a bit of a tan right now- sorry couldn't prevent that.

I have never and will never fake tanned, i prefer to have a compliment and accept it because i'm totally natural.

I did sunbathe on holiday but that was just to embrace the heat on the beach because i live in scotland and we got about 2 days of summer.

Also because i had been out all night and didn't want to sleep inside all day so i kipped on the beach instead.

It's just an image thing, like how people will wear make up to enhance their look.

Fake tan can be ok, but mostly it looks far too orange and barbie-like.

Each to their own though eh.

fake tans are most of the time, ugly. they smell horrible and look horrible. sunbathing for a tan is sometimes the best part of a holiday, its nice coming home with a tan because it reminds you of your holiday and you get a nice glow.

me living in scotland the only time id get a tan is on holiday, but people tan in hot countries or whatever because it sometimes makes skin problems better (like acne) or just for the nice glow :)

i dont know why people get fake tanned. it just makes them look orange, and if they do it themselves, blotchy. iim really pale and i dont really care to be honest. i like being pale. it suites me =P

some people go tanning at salons to get a base tan so they are tan right as soon as they get into their bikkini on vacation
