Why do people get involved in road accidents?

  1. usually it's because they aren't paying attention to the road & what's up ahead.  whether they are drunk, or texting, or reading, or finding a CD, or eating, or putting on makeup, or beating their children in the backseat, etc.

    however, sometimes, it's some other jackass doing one or more of those things and they hit you.

Contrary to what everyone else is posting here, road accidents do not just happen.  There is some sort of failure to obey a vehicle law - either through negligence (not paying attention to traffic, vehicle mainainnence issues, or modefied equipment on vehicles, roads, etc) or through willful mis-conduct (speeding, tailgating, agressive driving, theft of road signs etc).  

  5. people are distracted by what's going on in the car.  radio, kids, food, pets, phone, make up.

    people are speeding or driving too fast for the conditions.  traffic, weather, road surface.

    people are impaired.  alchohol, drugs, lack of sleep.

  6. It just happens. Its a thing in life.

  10. there can be any number of reasons for a collsion, but usually it is an inattentive driver (distracted or just not paying attention)...

    Cell phones usage.

    Distractions.

    Aggressive tailgating.

    Lights flashed at them because the other motorist was annoyed

    Deliberate obstruction -- preventing them from moving their vehicle

    Verbal abuse.

    Physical assault.
