Why do people get so bent out of shape when merchants ask to see their ID?

When you making a credit card/debit card purchase. The merchant is trying to make sure you are the card user. Instead if getting all upset, you should be happy they're asking, so this way if your card was stolen the thief can't use it. So why do people get so P/Oed over showing their ID?

  1. Because when you sign the back of the card that is authorizing use of the card. If you do not sign it, it has worn off, or you have written "SEE ID" then youre welcome to ID. But I believe those would be the only reasons to ID a person. And perhaps if it is a large purchase. Anyway let people get mad, who cares.

  2. People are in a hurry and they assume that you should not think they are  trying to scam someone and you should not assume that they are. I'm glad they do because it's for your saftey. The only time it bothers me a little is if it's for cig's or wine and you are obviously over 21. (I'm 42). No one over forty could EVER be mistaken for a 21 year old.

  3. It's stupid. See, the person gets all mad because they have to wait an extra 30 seconds, plus have to actually move to get their ID, so they mad because it is a inconveinance.

However, on the other hand if the regeister/merchant doesn't check and it is not the card owner, the real owner would probably sue and win because the merchant/regiester person didn't properly do their job. Its a double standard. People are retarded. My opinion? When you are shopping in a mall just keep your ID handy. Its as simple as that.

  4. People dont like being accused just because other people have screwed things up for everybody..also sometimes you feel that some people ask you because you look broke or something which is judgemental.

  5. People, usually like to be trusted.

More over, most of the times people are in a hurry and

No one like to spend additional time to flash their ID.

There is no age limit to scam.

*@* Readers will be surprised, to know that 35 years ago,

I used my "Credit Card' at number of places, instead of ID Card, as I had no ID Card. Now I don't use Credit Card, at all.
