Question:

Why do people get so confused at roundabouts?

Is it because they don't know their left from their right so even though they're saying in their head "give way to the right" they hear "just pull out and go for it, no matter how many cars are speeding at me"?

  1. Because they drive with their heads up their asses.

  2. It doesn't help matters when other people don't bother to indicate either, like you're supposed to know they're turning right but they're in the left hand lane. Some people shouldn't be allowed to drive!!

  3. people are stupid....thats the simple answer

  4. Roundabouts are still a fairly new development in most parts of the USA, and most older drivers have never been taught the rules that apply... And in our case, it would be "Give way to the Left!" which is the reverse of the more familiar four-way stop intersection, where the vehicle to your right has the right-of-way.

  5. Many people confuse modern roundabouts with traditional traffic circles or rotaries, such as those found on the East Coast. Three basic principles distinguish the modern roundabout from a traffic circle.

  6. I honestly don't know how you guys do it - whenever my husband and I go back to England for a visit (he's British) I make him do all the driving.  From an American's perspective it looks rather smooth.  You should see how awful it is over here in the States.. there is a reason we 4-way stops instead.

  7. who cares lady!

  8. Lots dont seem to realise they only have to give way to traffic from the right or those already on the roundabout.I think lots of drivers dont look ahead before arriving on the roundabout and thus stop then look. This slows all the traffic to a standstill.

  9. because there stupid they put there and other life's at risk its not just round abouts there are some bad drivers

  10. I think because people just arent used to them. it takes a while for idiots to get the concept into there driving habbits.

  11. If you think it's bad in the UK, try driving in France. They haven't got a clue!!!!

  12. I don't think it's so much confusion as it is that good old American attitude that it's "Me First" and they fail to yield the right of way or offer courtesy...

  13. i dont know how these people pass their test in the first place its obvious they have never read the highway code

  14. I hate roundabouts, they are the bain of my life. people just seem to put their foot down and go.

although the rule is give way to the right, the ones on the right need to be in the correct lanes and indicate.

with mini roundabouts people cross them when turning right instead of going round them. often heading into traffic.

but what really gets my goat is people before the junction indicating right, they see a car or even a bus opposite going straight, even though the bus slow & heavy,  & on the junction they try & race it cutting over the junction causing a crash, needless to say insurance says its the bus drivers fault (on the left), as the car came from the right. but if caution was shown by the driver on the right, the crash would not happen.

every one should take care on a roundabout.

(ironicly) their has just been a crash outside on the roundabout outside my house. from the guy on the right putting his foot to the metal.

  15. It doesn't help when some roundabouts aren't marked correctly and there is no consistency to lane-rules. For example if there are two lanes coming into a roundabout some allow the left lane for turning left and going straight on and the right lane for going straight on and turning right. Others, however, have the right lane for right turn only - not too bad in itself but they only let you know  when your almost at the junction and then find yourself in the wrong lane!

Also, a lot of drivers are selfish dickheads without a thought or care for anybody else on the road but themselves.

The latter is probably the biggest problem.

  16. People are creatures of habit that are unable to react to driving more advanced traffic shapes like circles. Im surprised more people dont get stuck in them in fear of where to go.

  17. Because people have to start thinking and that is not a normal state for some people on the roads.
