Question:

Why do people get so worked up over giving up?

Why are people so pissed off when you don't want to work, and you just take it to a higher level?

I don't want to go to college and end up getting stuck in the 9-5, so I've decided to simply wither away as soon as my nice, easy life fades away.

Maybe it is just an excuse to be lazy, but so what? I'm perfectly fine dying at a young age, so there's really no loss for me, but what I want to know is, why everybody else gets worked up over it?

  1. You ever seen the movie "office space?"  If not find it and watch it.

It seems as if you are a free thinker and probably have what it takes to do wonders for people no matter what profession you choose.  Take that free thinking energy and design/create/invent intelligent ways or things for people to do things easier/better.

You will probably be successful with this attitude.

  2. We're talking quality of life here.  Sure, you might die young, or modern medicine can keep you going indefinitely.  The point is to live, not just exist.

Show up at college for a class or two.  Ah, college...good times had by all.

  3. More power to ya!

I guess it shows they care about you enough to become upset. That might not matter to you and you might not depend on them for much but, these concerned people might be depending on you. Can you imagine if your mother, I'm assuming you have a some what normal family, made a comment like the one you just posted.

  4. Because life actually lasts a very very long time.

You're what- in your early 20s now? That means you've only "lived" say 11-12 years.

Imagine 5 more "lives" of 11-12 years, back to back, with increasingly more financial, emotional and other problems. Fear and despair because  you didn't plan your life earlier. That, coupled with the pain of aging (physical and in terms of lonliness).

You may think you'll just die young age but there are really so  many old sad homeless people.

  5. "Shut your mouth and do what you're told, Get a job and start growing old, 9-5 can make your dreams come true, but I don't wanna be like you"

Listen to, The Art of Losing, by American Hi-Fi from the movie American Pie.

Also, Aussie T Shirt:  Dead kid in front of Mack Truck.  The driver looking at him says, "Nice shorts".  The caption:  Live Fast DIe Young in a Nice Pair of Shorts.

There are lots of ways to contribute to society and not be 9-5.  People want you to contribute that is why they get worked up over it.  You sound like an innovator.  Write music, design a T-Shirt, write a book about your homeless suicidal experience.  You could call it, Undersize Me.
