  1. Because the pay is great and since it is only for the summer they are willing to live in bad conditions (4-5 people sharing a small 2 bedroom) so the cost of living is not that much.

  2. People come to western Canada for summer jobs mainly for the weather and the scenery.  Many French-Canadian people go to the interior of the province for the fruit harvest especially in places like Oliver, Penticton, Kelowna.  Another group of people head the the west coast of Vancouver Island to the Tofino area for the tourist trade employment as well as the surfing opportunities.  Then there is the tourist trade at Whistler which is an all season resort and in some instances accommodation is provided.

  3. Its only expensive in and around the cities (like Vancouver). I kknow alot of people who are getting jobs in Northern BC where there are alot of mining etc. jobs that pay SO good.

And its true the pay is higher.

  4. Western Canada is very expensive to live in; however, that is due in part to the jobs and wages.  Nevertheless, many working people here are struggling to pay rent by working two or more jobs because minimum wage jobs are becoming more and more common every year.  Anyone planning to work here should do some research before actually moving here.  It is not the paradise that people around think it is.

  5. Because they can go back to where the cost of living is cheaper and you can sleep outside here in the summer.

I'm one of the foolish ones who lives here year round.
