  1. Because I do not want to change my lifestyle. I love my high school, friends, and my house. I would hate to have to start all over again.

  2. why do I continue to live in an earthquake zone?

why do they still sell mobile homes in tornado regions?

why did people still live on the side of mount st helens before it erupted?

    ----

1.) not everyone has the economic power to move

2.) no place is completely safe

3.) math might imply you are statistically unlikely to be destroyed twice

4.) you get comfortable with the monster you know, and fear 'the other guy's monster more.

5.) you might actually LIKE the place you live and uprooting your entire family and friend set is probably not feasible.

    ---

The important thing is to make the best decisions you can (like strapping down your water heater, having a building escape plan, etc.)

And your house can burn down anywhere, and is statistically more likely to happen than get hit by a hurricane.

    ---

Of course, being an earthquake guy, I can't see why anyone would expose themselves to hurricane/flood dangers!

    ----

Seriously though, if you absolutely 100% knew that a hurricane would return within 5 years and definitely kill you.  I bet you would move away.  but you don't know that, and probabilities say it won't happen, even if you choose to live in Lousiana.

SOMEBODY may get killed, but it probably won't be YOU.

  3. Well... as you know, people tend to think bad things will not happen to them... even after bad things do happen, they think that it won't happen, to them, again.  Also, disasters can happen anywhere.  Where do you live?  I live in a place where tornados have the potential to occur often, but even if my house were destroyed by a tornado, I wouldn't go somewhere else to live, I'd rebuild and think it wouldn't happen to me again.  People don't want to leave their homes and their cities, even if they are disaster prone.

  4. well i think your not curious your just ignorant and I'm not trying to judge you just telling you how it is! I'm from New Orleans. But before i answer your question let me ask you one. Why do people live in states where they have tornado's you never have a warning and you don't know how bad it could be? now your answer, No matter where you live theres going to be something to run from or be scared of whether its earthquakes, tornado's, snow storms , wild fires. I rather keep going back to new orleans where you have warnings weeks in advance rather than you wake up one day never to know whats going to happen and if you never lived in new orleans and not from there you WILL NEVER UNDERSTAND!!!! And that what we pay insurance for d**n it!!!

  5. i aint ascared a no huricanes! theyz can come all dey want i eaint leaving.  da guvment tol me to leave cuz huricaine gonna kill mea dn it dint so i know theys lying, trying to get me to leaves so tey can take my stuff! i aint never leaving i tell you what

  6. u know i could never figure it out... could be because they r so attached to their home place ... i really don't know.

  7. We evacuated for Hurricane Katrina to The woodlands Texas,It was alright for a little while, but when you spend your whole life growing up here you tend not to wnat to be in any other place,my family, good food, and 24 hour partying, who would want give that up?(just joking) Where ever you go their is always a natural disaster, you can't run from mother nature

  8. For the same reason they go back to Ca after an earthquake or fire...or to the midwest after a tornado....your home is always your home...you live learn and rebuild...if we made every place that had a natural disaster off limits for rebuilding we would have nowhere to live.

  9. Since you're just curious, that's a really easy answer. They go back because it's home.

  10. Well.. home is home. I just hope this one stays away form New Orleans!

  11. Humans have very short memories.  I'm still in Florida....

  12. i agree with chicagos answer
