Why do people go into the PARANORMAL SECTION AND ASK.......????

Why do people go into the "paranormal" section and ask, "Do you believe in the paranormal"?

That's like going into the "sports" section and asking, "Do you like sports"......duh!

Because you shouldn't assume that everyone on the paranormal section believes in the paranormal..any more than you should assume that all the people on R&S believe in God.

I suspect there are as many reasons that people do this as there are people. Some may want support, some may want to know what percent of believers versus skeptics is on here, some people may be baiting believers, some may even baiting skeptics.

Your analogy is flawed as that a very vocal minority on YA that are in this section strictly do not believe in anything paranormal. It does raise the question of why if they don't wish to contribute they bother to be here.

In fairness some have expressed thought out opinions and provided links to articles providing a skeptical argument against the paranormal. Others just question peoples sanity, drug use status, intelligence, and keep repeating "there is no evidence" and the Randi challenge (as they criticize this section being in the science section).

It may actually be a legitimate question. Probably not, but it might be. If they don't believe in the paranormal, for whatever reasons, they may just want to confirm to themselves that people actually do believe this stuff.

It could also be that they think the bulk of this section is devoted to people who don't believe in the paranormal, and are trying to prove it false. Kind of like how there's tons of atheists in the Religion and Spirituality section. They may just be asking to confirm what type of group frequents this section.

More likely, though, they're asking improperly why you believe in the paranormal.
