I work at Olive Garden and sometimes people are so rude! We have to offer wine to every guest! If we don't we could lose our job. . . .

Before i can even finish saying hi people cut you off and say no I'll drink coke, and the other person will say they don't want anything.

FYI water still counts as drinking something so don't wait till i come back to say you want water that was a unneeded trip that I now have to make.

  1. I  have noticed this on numerous occassions,, I think some customers, Just do not respect the waiterts or waitresdses.and want to appear smart or importantant. this is really a hard question to answer because, it touches on psycology. and I am not that smart. so I will stay with my first submittance.

  2. I agree. People will tell you they don't want anything to drink and then ask for water making you do an extra trip. Water IS something to drink. Used to be my pet peeve when waitressing. And when they start ordering before even sitting properly down: "I'll have the soup" and no-one else in the party has even opened their menu's yet. Well excuse me but we do have certain service standars to go by, eg. introducing ourselves, offering drinks first, explaining the special etc. And PLS let me take the order when EVERYBODY in the party (or at least most of them) is ready to order, not just you. Augh, I do not miss my waitressing days! ($$$ was much better than what I do now though...) Good luck, hang in there girl!

  3. people are assh*les get used to it,sorry.

tip= if they say they want nothing preempt them with a Glass of water[warm if your mean]

if you" have" to say it ,then have fun with it ,make jokes

bottom line is "some" people are always going to be like that ,don't let them get you down.

that why I liked being a bartender in a bar over a waiter in a restaurant,in the bar I would" own "you if you dissed me or any other staff.

  4. Well ,how many times have you taken out the condiments first, before the food & someone at the table will enevidably ask for them, when they are right in front of their face! And how many times have you told the person that you are taking the order from, the kinds of soup you have, just to have to repeat it all over again to the person sitting right next to them? And that was after telling everone at the table right in the beginning . The list of those kind of things goes on & on. And it is never ends!People don't think of these things from our prospective, just theirs. Some places still do give water without having to be asked. Maybe ,since they didn't recieve it right away,(they waited to see if it was comming or not,so they ask for some water.,when they figured out that you need to ask for it)

  5. I'll go with the rude thing.  People who think they're better than you because you're "just a waitress" and should go to college and get a real job.  (Yes, I've gotten that before.)  However, sometimes I appreciated people who knew what they wanted right off the bat even if they were rude.  It saved time.  "Two vodka martinis, 2 prime ribs, both medium, baked potato, hashbrowns with cheese, and the combo!"  Okeedokee!  That saved me a few trips.

  6. People (especially old people) don't consider water a 'drink' cause back in the day water just came automatically when you sat down at your table, then later when the waitress came you ordered your 'real drink'.  If you didn't want a 'real drink' you just drank the water so it was considered ordering 'nothing' to drink.  So they take it for granted that water should come without them asking.  If they want a 'real' drink then they order it when you ask.  But when you don't bring the water automatically like they expected, then they ask for it later (in an annoyed fashion).

  7. We know how hard you guys work.  Sorry for all the jerks. :)

  8. oh, I do love that. When they say "I'll have water", I really wanna say- "are you gonna snort it? cause it IS a freakin drink"

I feel your pain. I like the other guys answer, about the soup..."I'll have the...." YOUR PARTYS NOT READY.

People are rude. And some can be stupid. Just try & think of the GOOD ones...

  9. Because, unfortunately, people are rude.  So on behalf of the non-rude people, thanks for telling me your name when you approach my table, for answering my questions without attitude for being respectful of my meal, for not getting annoyed when I call you back over to my table.  Thanks again.

  10. Yeah, these things happen. Just don't take it personally, it's strictly business. You get a tip anyway. Good luck! :)

  11. People really show their true colors when they sit down in a restaurant. I feel for you.
