Why do people have a problem with phrase "The rich get richer and the poor get poorer"?

Its obviously true. Do some research. The poor are exploited by the rich. How can company's that report millions if not billions in profits for a year pay there employees minimum wage with no health care. Modern day slavery in my opinion.

Companies can only survive if they produce things that others want to buy. Apparently there aren't enough people like you who demand high cost goods produced by highly paid labor.

The trite phrase you used is really, "Those whose talents are in the highest demand get wealthier and those who talents are in the lowest demand get poorer."

If companies don't exist where do people work?  You can't blame rich people for being rich.

Most people get rich from making sound investments and saving their money.  Also, who contributes most to charities and non-profits?

The economy is not like a pie that is distributed in that is it.  That's why there is a problem.  The idea that the economy is a "zero-sum game" is fallacious.  Everyone can achieve if they work hard.  Conflict theorist (from a sociological stand-point) believed that this wasn't true.  That communism or socialism was better then capitalism.  Well, maybe pure capitalism.  But, we are not pure capitalism.  We are a mixed economy with social programs for those in need.  It's not about equal shares of the economic pie.  And, in general, not even the poor would suggest it would be.  If that was true we would live in bureaucracy.  Not a pretty economy.  Fact is, you work hard and you can make it.  Millions of Americans have come up from "no-where".  Conflict theorist suggest that it is not a fair system.  And, maybe not completely.  But the fact that life isn't fair isn't just a faculty of mixed capitalism.  On the contrary:  it is a faculty of life.  DEAL WITH IT!

Truth is usually ugly, T20, no arguments here.  Stephen T, FYI the poor contribute more to charity than do the minority rich,  Our $5 to the SPCA, disease foundations and care for orphans per month or when we can, outweigh the one shot million bucks tax-exempt donations from the rich and famous.  Only difference between modern and feudal days is ours is financial and theirs was better swordsmanship.  I always heard it as the rich get richer and the poor get children.
