Why do people have children other then to populate the earth.?

Im not meaning to be rude, but it often seem that people have children because they are bored with their own life, need something to do, or need something to take care of? Why have children? Why not have a great hobby that doesn't cost you so much money. As i said, im not meaning to be rude, its just a question

Some people have children because that is what you are "supposed" to do. Others because they want to share their knowledge and values and expand their family. Others to have a legacy or someone to care for them when they are old.

It's true, some people have children just because they're "supposed" to. It's considered the norm in our society. You get married, then you have children. This can create problems because the parents haven't fully committed to the task of raising children. The kids suffer when they aren't the focus of their parent's lives.

But some people have a strong and genuine desire to have children and focus on raising good people. Loving and teaching their children is what gives their life purpose. I think that's a great thing! I admire great parents, they will make our society better by raising good citizens.

I, however, don't have this desire. I have decided to remain child free. I think it's oftentimes a mistake for people who don't have that "innate desire" to be a parent to choose to have children.

EDIT: It's a myth that every girl/woman desires to be a mommy. It doesn't mean we hate kids (I LOVE  and have fun with my neices and nephews) and It doesn't mean we will be sad and lonely later in life (a child free marriage isn't sad and lonely).

When you love a person and are with them and know thier the one .... having children with THAT person , Nobody else, Is something you just 'want'.

Knowing that child was created by you and your hubby brings great joy.

And knowing how much youll love the child.

Yeah , It's a lot of work. But so are hobbys , so why have a hobby?

people have children to pass on their legacy and to feel like they have grown responsibly honestly in this day in age we dont need babies for a while. it gives women a purpose and makes them feel loved when they love a child. not that women dont have a purpose or anything just that most want love from a child. to make that clear

for a woman, even as a child we have an infatuation with kids. its part of who we are and our maternal instincts. a woman who doesnt not have kids is usually depressed when she gets older. i have kids because i love kids and people, we are amazing creatures. its not just kids, they grow up into wonderful independent adults that love their family. family is always there for you. no one has kids because they are bored!

I'm childfree, so having kids won't be one of my accomplishments.

I really hope you are not serious. It is tough having children. From the childbirth itself to the sleepless night, to the never ending worries... Therefore, it is not "just for fun".

I am sure there are people out there that have children for the "wrong" reasons...

However, there are also people out there that feel like I do, that they just have so much love to give and really do love children!

BY ACCIDENT!! Thats what happened to me..with some loser. I am happy tho. But had I planned it, it would of been with my hubby and simply because my husband wants to and we want to be a family. I want to see what we would make! I like being a housewife, cleaning cooking for a family and seeing them smile. I know, sounds cheesy. Also, dumb but I want to raise my kids better than my parents raised me, i like the challenge.

But i know what you mean, I know a chic that got pregnant on purpose, for attention and because she is sooooooo conceited and bitchy!!! Im like WTF she really could of just got a hobby huh?

If and when you have children you will understand. When my first was born we planned her because my husband and I have so much love to give our children. We desired to be good parents and just knew this is what we wanted. We love her and love to see her grow and learn more every day. There is no better satisfaction than to know you child is healthy, happy and secure. I feel so blessed to have another daughter now. We lost one baby before I was even 3 months pregnant and felt a hole in our hearts. You will never feel more love and compassion than when your child is born. If you love that child and had them for the right reason (not just to populate the earth) than that child will only benefit the world and will grow up loved and not abandoned like many children. I think I know where your question is coming from. I too don't know why some people choose to have children if they have no intention on raising them. Like it says in the Bible (paraphrasing) you will know them by their fruits!
