Why do people in Mississippi not use their blinkers?

My family and I took a trip to Florida and unfortunately we had to drive all the way thru Mississippi on the way there and all the way thru it (by a different route) back home. Both times we noticed two things. First: maybe one of every 30th person used their blinkers and Second: the roads were complete c**p. So why is Mississippi such a dirty diaper with less than accomplished drivers?

The 57 percent of American drivers who say they don't use their turn signals for changing lanes have a variety of excuses.

In a survey commissioned by Response Insurance, these were the reasons given:

42 percent said they don't have time.

23 percent said they are too lazy.

17 percent said they don't because they forget to turn it off.

12 percent said they change lanes to frequently to bother.

11 percent said it's not important.

8 percent said they don't because others don't.

7 percent said not doing it adds to excitement.

The survey also found 62 percent of men leave the turn signal alone when changing lanes; the number was 53 percent for women. Seventy-one percent of drivers ages 18-24 don't signal, but 51 percent of those 55 to 64 do.

well being a mississippian myself i know exactly what you are talking about, and it ticks me off to.. I think its just laziness.. Some ppl just dont have the respect for the ppl around them like they should. And the road part, well i agree they have gotten crappy.. MS taxes are supposed to help keep up our roads but i guess the money is going in someone elses pockets..

Come to Austin, TX. Here, even the Cops don't know what the turn signal switch is for. LOL   However we do have good pavement, for the most part. Having driven in all fifty states, yes Alaska and Hawaii too, I'd say Louisiana has the worst roads with Arkansas and Oklahoma being not too far behind.

It's not just Mississippi, honey...I think it's a southern thing...I live in Houston, Texas, and I'm surprised when someone DOES use their turn signals! Like another answerer said, it's damned if you do, damned if you don't as far as using them on the freeways...a$$holes see that you're trying to merge into "their" lane and speed up. To eliminate that, you just check your side mirror and jump over before they even know what hit them!

I don't know if that would be just Mississippi, cause I live in Texas and the retards are just as bad over here. But then again a lot of times over here if you use a blinker on the freeway people will purposely speed up not to let you over so its kind of a d**n if you do or d**n if you don't.

I see the same thing in ny nj and ct as well as fl.   and its usually in foreign make cars so maybe turnsignals are optional on those....lol

They do not use turn signals every where, I guess it is because they are very hard to figure out and  most are not smart enough .

My wife was complaining about that just the other day. Suspect some of my fellow Mississippians are lazy and have little or no respect for others...that's why our highways and roads are often covered with litter and why driving through grocery store parking lots is like being in a shopping cart obstacle course.

Some care...many do not.
